In most places in Great Britain car parking is time limited, with the added clause "no return within 1hr
(2hrs, 5hrs etc)." In London and other major cities there is no free parking and the hourly charge is eye-wateringly expensive. Several years ago (having travelled to London by train) I noticed the street-side parking meter charge in a square in South Kensington was £10 for 15 minutes, no return.
So, it was refreshing to see this car park notice on the Isle of Portland whilst there on holiday last week:
Yes, parking is free and you can leave your car there for up to 3 days !
