Last night was fun. James and I went down to the Coronado Ferry Landing and fished for a little over 3 hours. On the way down to the bay we stopped and got some fresh sardines from Sea Food City and some food for us at Royal Mandarin.
All we took with us was some very very basic tackle, some chairs & blankets, and two poles. We had a blast fishing. Well, he had a blast fishing. Me? Well, I had a blast hanging out with him. :) My pole ended up catching two fish. Neither of which were big enough to keep. Not that it mattered, because I wasn’t bringing any fish home anyway. My plan was to just catch and release or catch and give away. LOL
While we were there, the man to our right caught like five fish. James was pretty cheesed and was super funny about showing his ire. The guy had two poles in, each with like SIX lines/hooks on it. Dunno how legal that is, but what do I care? I tried to tell James that it was just as if he had 12(!) poles in the water.
Across the bay from us we could hear the San Diego Pops doing one of their Summer Pops shows. It must have been the night for stage musicals since we could hear songs from The Lion King, Mamma Mia, and Phantom of the Opera, among others. At the conclusion of the Pops’ show they had fireworks off of a barge in the bay. The fireworks were a very cool bonus to the night.
All along I was getting posts to my phone about the Padres game. We were losing for a long long time, then we tied it up, THEN we ended up winning off of a grand slam!! Nice, right? Yes. But even better… MORE fireworks. Also, we could see the Sea World San Diego fireworks too!!
I know, “cool,” right? :)

Today Danny, James’ Big Brother picked James up and they went down to Qualcom Stadium for Chargerfest. It’s a free community event where the Chargers let fans in to watch their practice. Prior to practice though they have autograph signings, games and other fun stuff. Hot dogs are a buck and I’m sure there will be Chargers Girls there for the boys to ogle. LOL
Me? I get to clean the house. w00t!

I just spoke with mom. For those who don’t know my Mom took a bad fall yesterday. She fell on her left side, right onto hard tile. Mary, James and our Dad took her to urgent care and then to the hospital for all sorts of tests and exams. Nothing is majorly wrong or broken. For about a week she’ll feel like a Mac truck hit her and she’ll be on pain meds, but other than that, it’s just a wait and it’ll get better kind of thing.
This morning she, of course, is still feeling like poo. I’ll go over there later today, after cleaning but before James and Danny come back, and visit with her.

I want, very badly, to see the new GI Joe movie. It looks like it’s going to be amazing. James wants to see the new Brad Pitt movie, but I think that’s one I’ll wait on and since I’m the one paying… LOL
We’ll probably go tomorrow after Mass. Last time we went on a Sunday the mall was EMPTY because we got there SO early. It was kind of cool though. All the stores weren’t open yet, but there were those exercising people there walking the mall.
We walked and chatted and made fun of the store mannequins. LOL
So, quickly now will come the time that James will no longer want to hang out with me. He’ll no longer find what I say interesting. He’ll no longer want to share stuff with me.
When that time comes it will be sad. I’ve never ever tried to be my son’s friend. I feel one can not parent properly AND be your child’s friend. But now that much of my parenting is over, I’m finding that I like the young man my kid is turning into. If he was my age and I he wasn’t family, I’d like him enough to count him as a friend.
Sounds odd, but I hope you get my true meaning.

I’ve been on high blood pressure and thyroid meds for about two months now. I don’t know if I’m feeling a difference or not. Sometimes it feels like I am A LOT, but then sometimes, not really so much. *shrug* I need to go get my BP measured again now that I’m exercising fairly regularly and have dropped 10 lbs. I also need to schedule a mammogram and a hearing test. Ugh.

Other items on my TO DO list are get a copy of James’ shot records and get him registered for school. He’s going into the 8th grade. Public school for the first time. I’ve got an entire laundry list of why he’s not finishing out at St. Michael Academy (SMA, where he’s been since he was 3 years old!) but I’m trying REALLY hard not to speak poorly of our perish academy. I really and truly want the academy to get better and speaking ill about it won’t help.
There is a Back-To-School pool party for James’ St. Michael 8th grade class. I’m not sure if he was invited (via email) on accident or on purpose, but he’s going and is thrilled about it. He and I have spoken about how he’ll miss many many things at SMA, but that it’s ok to also be excited about going to the new place as well. So, he’ll have this last hurrah with his friends from SMA before heading off to Bell Middle School.
Last night, while fishing, he told me that he was going to crash the 8th grade graduation dance. LOL I told him that I’d help him do it. LOL He knows that he’d be welcomed and doesn’t need to “crash” the dance/party. But it was funny talking about it that way.
