More on James' school

OMG.

Seriously.

I can’t wait for James to be DONE with St. Michael Academy (SMA), they make me a little bit crazy.

Here is the emailed response from SMA’s principal, it came in last night at 10:13pm, so she must use her home computer as well as SMA’s machines…which means that her argument about the computers being “down” is moot.

Mrs. Hunt,

Much as we try to get through technology, sometimes there are loop holes and difficulties we encounter. During the past weeks our computers were down and on.

James is a seventh grader and must take responsibility on his own to list his homework on his planner or show you his notebooks. The Option C is just a part of notification to parents but should not take off that responsibility of the student.

Have a Merry Christmas.

And now… here is my response to her, which I’m sending right after I post this LJ entry.

Mrs. Xxxxx,

I am not negating James' responsibility in all of this, quite the contrary.  What I am saying is that what is in place, isn't working and needs to be fixed.  I'm also offering up ideas for said fix.

James *should* take good notes and keep up on his school work, I *should* make sure those things are being done and SMA *should* notify me if things are late/missing or if there are disciplinary issues.  I'm sure we can agree on this.

My desire is to make James accountable for his work.  I cannot do this without knowing what that work is and without solid communication between myself and SMA.

Computers or not, connectivity or not, Option C or not... there is no reason for the lack of communication between a school and a parent so let us not blame this on computers being down, for there are many ways for a parent to be notified when their child is falling behind or not improving from grading period to grading period, even if nothing more than pen to paper.

Please schedule a meeting in the new-year between myself, you and all of James' teachers (individual meetings if that works best for your faculty).

Thank you, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,

Yvonne

Can ya’ll feel my frustration?

Computers are down?

WTF?  Is that NOT the most bullshit answer you've ever heard?

Angry.

Not for nothing, but this lack of communication shouldn’t be a shock to me.  It’s been this way from the get-go.  I should be numb to it by now.

So, I had James read my original email, Mrs. Xxxxxxx’s response and my reply to her, then I turned to him and said, “You know how I can not be the ass-hole they think I am?”  I paused, knowing he’d not actually answer that, then said, “By *you* tracking your work and getting it done and turned in.”

His reply, “Mom, I’m so sorry.  I’m trying and I’ll keep working hard.”

Frustration. Anger.
