F1 Quotes & Heroes 2x03-2x04

And when you thought I was finished with F1... This morning I woke up to find a news article quoting FERRARI'S PRESIDENT Luca di Montezemolo PRAISING ALONSO AND CRITICIZING HAMILTON:
"Alonso is a real champion, in every sense, an extraordinary driver. I've really appreciated his sportsmanship," di Montezemolo was quoted as saying by Gazzetta dello Sport.

"He lost the championship by a point and I don't think it was his fault, rather it was a consequence of his team's bad internal management.

"By congratulating Raikkonen already during the press conference, Alonso demonstrated to be a champion off the track too. It was a gesture we greatly appreciated."

Di Montezemolo was also critical of Lewis Hamilton's driving in Brazil, although he added that the British rookie's overall achievements in his debut year were praiseworthy.

"Hamilton made an error driven by youth and nervousness. Had he stayed behind Alonso, instead of trying to attack him, he would be champion now. He did something rash," said the Ferrari president.

"But I must also recognise that during the season he did not always hold an exemplary behaviour. I didn't like, for example, the move on Raikkonen in qualifying in Interlagos."

There was a brief controversy at the end of qualifying in Brazil after Raikkonen encountered Hamilton while on his final flying lap. Hamilton, who was on an out-lap, apologised to Raikkonen and no action was taken.

"Alonso is world class in every sense, an extraordinary driver," Montezemolo told Italian reporters.

"I have appreciated very much his sportsmanship. He lost by one point and I believe it wasn't his fault."

Montezemolo was less complimentary about 22-year-old Hamilton, "I must say that in the course of the season he has not always behaved exemplarily," said Montezemolo, who added that the Briton's "youth and nervousness" had contributed to his problems.

Flavio Briatore, boss of Alonso's former Renault team and a possible destination for the Spaniard, said McLaren did everything possible to lose the drivers' title given the tension between their two racers.

"In the last races they should have left Alonso out. They should have put a reserve in Alonso's place and Hamilton would have won without any problem," Briatore told Antenna 3 television.

Ferrari president Luca Cordero di Montezemolo says Kimi Raikkonen's Formula One title is a product of team spirit.

"The difference between us and (McLaren) is that we're a team, and in the last race our drivers helped each other. And in the toughest times we were even more united," Montezemolo told Italian state radio Monday.

"After Hamilton's start and that needless attack on Alonso, I knew we could do it," Montezemolo said.

The season was marred by a spying scandal that led to a record US$100-million fine for McLaren, which was found guilty of using leaked data from Ferrari. The British team was kicked out of the constructors' championship, which was easily won by Ferrari.

"It would have been paradoxical if a driver had won with a car that was judged irregular and suspended," Montezemolo said. "Yesterday was a triumph of sport in the face of a lot of controversy and disloyalty. In the end, sports justice prevailed."

All emphases mine. I find the "team spirit" thing funny because that's always been Renault's thing (it was even engraved on their cars and the team DID win the Laureus World Sports Award for Best Team).

My favorite part, though, was when I found the following GREAT QUOTE by ALONSO PRAISING KIMI:
Alonso offered further praise for Raikkonen in an interview with Italian radio station RAI yesterday.

"He is an extraordinary guy - a very, very nice personality even though you don't see it," the Spaniard said.

"The moments I have with him behind the podium and in the press conference, he always laughs and plays pranks, things you don't see when you then watch him on TV.

"So I think he is a really good person, very focused in the races. He loves F1, he is a really great driver. He fought in 2003 and 2005, now he's managed to win the title, I'm very happy."

Awwww... :). Fernando, if only you two could be teammates... I'm not saying they won't fight like Alonso and Hamilton did, but somehow I think Fernando respects Kimi much more than Ham.

Speaking of which... Guess what. HAM ADMITS IN MAKING THE GEAR MISTAKE!
Lewis Hamilton has admitted that his bid for this year's Formula One Championship seemingly came to an end during the last race of the season following a moment of human error.

"My finger slipped on the steering wheel and I accidentally pressed the button used for the starting sequence," Hamilton confided several hours after the event, according to Montreal's French-language daily newspaper La Presse.

That error cut power to his McLaren for an interminable minute, dropping him down to 18th place as the Brazilian Grand Prix entered its eighth lap on the Interlagos circuit.

"The car went into neutral and I had to reinitialize the system, that is, reload the gearbox management program," he explained. The onboard camera recorded images of Hamilton pressing several buttons on his steering wheel while other drivers sped by.

However, apparently Dennis and Ham's camp denied this quote *shrug*.

Btw, so you think I'm not ALL about F1, I finally managed to watch the next two episodes of Heroes!

- Not happy about Claire and West. I still find him irritating. Must he have Nathan's power?

- Don't like Peter's new love interest either, can't remember her name. Must we have new love interests for our heroes straight out?

- Yay, Nathan shaved!

- OMG, Matt's dad is the boogeyman?!? Poor Molly, I hope she's okay. The triple Ms are still a very cute family though ;). Mohinder and Matt should get married, haha...

- Hiro... *sigh* I hope he gets the girl. As much as I like Anders as Kensei, Hiro deserves her. Btw, Kensei having the same power as Claire had me and my sister joking that he's Claire's great, great, great (and so on) grandfather! But I somehow have the feeling that Kensei may not yet be dead in the 'present.' After all, if he can heal, who's to say he doesn't age or at least ages veeeerrryyy slowly (like Wolverine)?

- Wow, HRG and the Haitian working together again? I guess the latter's freed himself from Mama!Petrelli?

- *sigh* D.L. is dead... I kinda knew it... Bad luck for Leonard Roberts. But Niki once again makes a bad decision and sold her soul to the Company. Micah is so cool and has grown a bit, I noticed. I wonder what kind of power his cousin Monica has? The ability to copy things from TV? Handy, but also kinda weird and almost lame... I think PTB needs to get more creative.

- Poor Candice, but she really is STOOPID if she thinks Sylar will take her on as partner. I wonder why he hasn't been able to get his power working though. Well, we still don't know how he worked it in the first place though. But now he's met Maya and Alejandro and have seen their 'mouth-watering' (or should I say 'eye-watering'? ---> *crickets* for Caderyn) power. I bet he's gonna kill the brother first. I hope they can use their power on Sylar first though...

- You know, Matt's investigation that Mama!Petrelli apparently inflicted the wounds herself got me thinking. Is it possible that the new big bad has power like Eden's? You know, just being able to command people to hurt themselves? I don't know...

So far, I haven't been incredibly impressed by the episodes, but the season is young...

Please don't spoil me of 2x05 :).
