I reckon most of you have taken yourself off-line thanks to Harry, but I wanted to make this post anyway. I haven't been around, partly due to HP (and trying to avoid spoilers), but really, MOSTLY because I haven't had anything to say!
F1 - European GP @ Nurbugring
Congratulations to FERNANDO ALONSO for winning the European GP!!!
WOW.
What a race. Hell, I knew a few rain's bound to spice things up ;). I don't even know where to begin.
Alonso. Holy hell, that was ONE BRILLIANT overtaking maneuver (spelling?) on Massa! This guy's just the master of rain. He's got the nerve of steel. That was simply eye-popping O.O good stuff.
Massa was evidently not too happy about it though. 'Saw he and Alonso arguing a bit when they had to get their weigh-ins. I wonder why, though. That was just a fair, gutsy move on Alonso's part, in my opinion. Could it be because of this thing Alonso did after he pulled up to park following his victory lap? He beckoned the camera to come closer to show the middle left part of his car, which showed some scratches, maybe paint from Massa's car. He pointed at that and then shook his finger at the camera to show his disapproval. Hmmm... I didn't really get that. But as an Alonso fan, with my bias (heh), I just thought it was cute. He then apologized repeatedly to Massa during the interview though. Even when Massa was speaking, looking evidently unhappy, Alonso said "sorry" out loud. Don't think Massa accepted it though. Ahhh well, I hope he'll let it go. All's fair in racing, right?
I LOVE how Alonso, in his interview, said that he enjoys races with changing conditions. Of course, with having just won this, he would've been happy, but, really, I've noticed that in general, Alonso is a cool, relaxed guy, despite being aggressive like the devil (or a Spanish bull) on track. Did anyone else see how he was laying his head back in his car before the race, seemingly catching a siesta (or a tan)? Hee hee, so calm and relaxed...
LOVE this guy :D. I'm glad he was back on top of the podium again :). And now, only two points behind Hamilton!
Speaking of which... Okay, I'm so mean, but I LOVED how Hamilton didn't score a point in this race. I wanted a Lewis DNF, but I'll take ninth place finish happily :). I must say that I LAUGHED like a maniac when he went off the road during Qualifying. I knew it wasn't his fault with his left front tire deflating, but, well, I'd like to think of it as Karma slapping him back to Earth after being SUCH a jackass to Massa on that Qualifying lap. Did anyone see how he was absolutely DOGGING Massa, even trying to overtake him at one point, just so he could qualify in clean air ahead of Massa? Jeez, man, it was bloody Qualifying! So glad Massa didn't put up with his bullshit though. And then he went off that same lap. HAH! Don't mess with Karma, bitch (I've been watching too much My Name is Earl, admittedly ;D).
Hamilton was quite lucky in this race though, when he spun to the barriers without hitting anything and managed to keep his engine running (and then Sutil completely missing him as HE spun to the same barriers). I was so scared that any of the top eights would get taken out before the checkered and Lewis somehow managing to get one of the points-paying positions, but YESSS, not to be ;).
Poor KIMI!!! You know, I was ready to accept a Massa-Alonso-Kimi finish because I wanted the points between the three of them and Hamilton to be closer, but damn, Kimi's luck ran out again. With Button and Webber, I reckon Kimi's among the unluckiest drivers out there. I know that this sport's mainly skill, nerve, and technology, but, really, you can't be a champion without oodles of luck. And this, I'm afraid, is one thing that Kimi's lacking for some reason. I don't know why, but engines just keep dying on him! Maybe it IS his driving skills, because Ferrari's well known to be reliable (Michael Schumacher's notorious championship-ending DNF last season notwithstanding).
Speaking of whom.... Holy crap, Michael Schumacher was on the podium (with a HORRENDOUS shirt btw) giving the trophy to Ron Dennis!!!
That was just weird!
Too bad his fellow Germans didn't do so well though today. Rosberg and Sutil (HE's German, right?) were eliminated early, along with Button and the two Toro Rossos. And the other Schumacher, Ralf was later sadly taken out by his fellow German Heidfeld, for which Heidfeld later apologized (Congratulations on his newborn son, btw :D!).
Heidfeld and Kubica were swapping positions throughout the race. I was convinced that Kubica would come out on top (especially since several shots we got showed Heidfeld being unable to pass his teammate --- well, Massa, in Ferrari, had a hard time doing it last race; no wonder Heidfeld did too). But at the end, Heidfeld somehow managed to get ahead of Kubica.
The Red Bull guys, Webber and Coulthard, did remarkably well. I'm surprised their engines didn't blow up or something before the end, but I guess I'm happy for them. They're not my favorite team (more PR shows than race pace), but I do feel sorry for them for their seemingly strings of bad luck. Coulthard's crew made a mistake on his last pit, enabling Wurz to get ahead of him and in between he and his teammate. I think unlike Kimi, Wurz is the one guy that has good luck on his side, because remember the last chaotic race in Canada? Wurz somehow managed to avoid all the catastrophes to finish on the podium. I was seriously expecting Webber's luck to fail him once more and for Wurz to take the last podium spot again. And you know what, that almost happened, when Webber looked like he was losing his grip on the very last corner before the checkered. But he kept it and Wurz wasn't quick enough, so good job, Webber, for finishing on the podium!
Heikki did great too, finishing ahead of Fisichella. Too bad he gambled and changed to intermediate tires too early towards the end, he could've finished fifth, but I guess he still finished with a point. When Hamilton overtook Fisichella for ninth in the closing laps, I was screaming for Heikki to hold him. Thank goodness they were lapped cars and Alonso had crossed the line before Hamilton could make his move.
Other than that... How about Markus Winkelhock, a rookie in his first ever race, driving arguably the worst car on track, LEADING the bloody race on a restart??? Wow. Too bad this ain't NASCAR or he would've gotten the prestige of gaining five extra points ;). And bad luck that he had to retire later on. But, wow, what a moment in the sun for the Spyker team, huh?
This was a bloody brilliant race. Maybe still not as exciting as Canada, but, well, I'm happier about this one because Alonso won! WOOT!!!
F1 - European GP @ Nurbugring
1. Alonso
2. Massa
3. Webber
4. Wurz
5. Coulthard
6. Heidfeld
7. Kubica
8. Heikki
On the Drivers Championship points, Alonso's two points behind Hamilton (WOOO, getting closer!), Massa's nine points behind Alonso, and Kimi's seven points, I think, behind Massa. I think Heidfeld still has a twelve points lead over Kubica in fifth and sixth place respectively. On the Constructors points, McLaren's 27 points clear of Ferrari. See? I told ya, we can afford a Hamilton DNF!
Next race is Hungary in two weeks' time :). Last year, this was a crazy wet race, in which, if I recall correctly, both Michael and Alonso failed to finish and Jenson Button got on to the podium for the very first time.
Next year, F1 won't be racing in Nurbugring. Instead, it'll be on Hockenheim. The two German circuits will alternate the honors every other year. In the past, these two tracks were both raced in one season and some drivers protested how it was unfair that Michael Schumacher got to race his 'home' GPs twice.
MotoGP will race in Laguna Seca, California in three hours. Unfortunately, that equals to crappy coverage time for me :(. I don't think I can watch it live. I'm hoping for one of the Repsol boys to take it. Go Dani and Nicky! I still support Casey Stoner, so I'll be happy if he wins it too though.
I was actually on the closing chapters of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows before I came online, but I thought I'd have a break. I REALLY don't want to finish it too soon, but at the same time, I'm beyond curious about the ending. I think I won't be visiting my 'Friends' page until I finish. I know that most of you are good with spoiler cuts, but well, you never know with the communities. Expect me to make an update about it soon though :). Man, this book makes me emotional beyond belief!
Other than that, I've been watching HBO's Carnivale. Did anyone watch this? It's pretty good... The subject matter is slightly grim and confusing, though admirably creative. The characters are oddballs and some of them aren't very attractive (not just physically, but personality-wise). The visuals, though, are AWESOME, with its muted colors, weathered look, as well as its rustic sets and costumes. The plot moves a bit too slow, but each episode implants enough curiosity that you want to keep watching. Lastly, the ships :).
Okay, most of you probably never watched this show and wouldn't know the hell I'm talking about, but I'm going to ramble on anyway. This show has the weirdest ships (the-bearded-lady/the-blind-psychic, the-good-looking-lead-character/a-woman-who-looks-like-his-grandma) and, yup, it's one of those where everyone hooks up with everyone, though it didn't seem like it at first. For the record, my favorite ship is Ben/Sofie. It's odd that they seemed to be heading that way in the first three episodes and then have the characters not share a single bloody scene up until the finale. Other ships I like are Justin/his-sister-Iris, who are creepy; Rita-Sue-the-stripper-slash-prostitute/her-husband-slash-pimp-Felix, who are sweet; Rita-Sue/Jonesy, who are adulterously hot; and Rita-Sue's-daughter-who-is-also-a-stripper-and-perhaps-bisexual-Libby/Jonesy.
Wooo. Watch it if you want to see weird characters and great battles between good and evil. Such a good, oddball show. I'm only up to season one and am keeping this as something to do after HP comes to an end *sniff*.
Alright, well, hope all of you are enjoying your Harry Potter time :)!
