alexwhitman25 gave me an 'F.'
F... F... F... Hey, the most famous four-letter word in the English language begins with the letter 'F'!
Well, you gotta click on the link to see if THAT is one of them ;).
I didn't realize there were so many things starting with the letter 'F.' I mean, 'FANDOM' itself begins with an 'F'! Which of course brings me to 'FLIST' and my general fandom world. Heh, I try not to include too many fandoms in here though ;).
10 'F' Things I Like:
1. Formula One / F1
Surprise, surprise? Probably not, hey, since I consider this to be my favorite sport. It was the one that got me into motorsport (now I've branched out to MotoGP and NASCAR as well). My love for it is inevitable, really, since my dad LOVES cars and I grew up with him tinkering away in the garage every so often (he'd buy old cars cheaply and sell them for profit after he finished).
If you don't 'get' it (motor racing, that is), I can't really pinpoint to you exactly why I love it. Maybe it's the technology. I LOVE how the cars (or motorcycles) being raced are showcasing cutting-edge technology that engineers and mechanics and aerodynamic chassis designers have developed. I love how it's both an individual sport (drivers drive alone) and a team sport (engineers/mechanics/designers must fine-tune the car prior to each race and pit crew must service the car in mere seconds during the race --- and all must be done PERFECTLY). It's something about the quest for perfection. And unlike other 'physical' sports, it's a combination of the human and the technical elements, coupled with a dash of luck, that makes for a successful race. Plus, the excitement lies both in the anticipation (you hold your breath a lot during a race because a crash can happen in seconds, for example) and in the pure rush at seeing cars (or bikes) go that fast ;D.
2. Fernando Alonso
Well, speaking of F1... This is the driver that made me obsessively watch F1 in the first place! Alonso, Alonso... Where to start? Such great skills at such a young age... I just love the way he drives! He's aggressive and calm at the same time. He overtakes people in moves that make your eyes pop out. And he's a clean driver, unlike another driver whose guts I couldn't stand and whose name I shall not mention. Alonso's just someone who, you can tell, was born to do this. I could sing him more praises, but, hey, wouldn't want to bore you, since I still have eight more items on this list ;).
3. Films
Films, cinemas, movies... Call it whatever you want to call it, this is undoubtedly one of my great passions in life ;D. There's nothing quite like sitting in a dark cinema (preferably in the middle of the row a couple of seats from the back) JUST as the movie's about to start.
It's an amazing feeling. I just love stories and characters and intrigues and mysteries. It's probably why I never have a fixed favorite genre and why I'd watch so many things ;).
4. Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain
And speaking of good films... Oh how I love this movie. It's cute, quirky, pretty, unique, with a beautiful story, setting, music, characters, and cast. What's not to like? Plus, it's in French, which, I'm sorry, I just think is the nicest language to listen to in the world.
5. France / French
I've only been to France once, but I remember it being tres belle ;D. Plus, like I said, I LOVE the French language. I always wish I were fluent. And, though not all of the following are genuinely French per se, there are so many great things that start with the word 'French': toast, kiss, fries, music, cheese, wine, perfume, bread, food in general... Yup, the French are GOOD :).
6. Firefly
Okay, the cast doesn't actually look like this on the show, since it's a space/western genre, but I just LOVE this photo of them (thank you
fresco_senorita!). Firefly was a short-lived series by Joss Whedon of Buffy and Angel. It was set in the distant future and it was about a bunch of, um, how shall I put it, 'riff-raffs' perhaps, on board a firefly-class ship called Serenity. It shouldn't have been anything new in the sci-fi genre, but it was interestingly without aliens/robots/mandroids (instead of alien language, the future spoke half-English, half-Mandarin) and the scripts were written impeccably, with the most fantastic Whedon-like dry humor. Plus, it was impossible not to fall in love with the characters and their brilliant dynamics. It really should have gotten plenty and plenty of seasons, but unfortunately it was screened by those cancel-happy bastards FOX. Nevertheless, Firefly's just one of those, whose fandom refuses to die, thankfully :).
7. Futurama
Speaking of great series that should've never been cancelled (I think this was also unlucky enough to be screened by FOX), Futurama was so FANTASTIC that I would gladly trade the many seasons of The Simpsons for more of this. It was created by the same guy who made The Simpsons, but it's set in New York City in the year 3000. We watch the series through the eyes of this practically-loser pizza delivery guy named Fry, who accidentally got cryogenically frozen on New Year's Eve 2000 only to wake up a thousand years later. The humor was more sophisticated and political than The Simpsons (Richard Nixon robot running for President of Earth?), which was why I LOVED it better, and the storylines, characters, and sets were a lot more creative (well, they had to be, seeing as it's set in the 31st century).
8. Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends
Well, here's an animation series that thankfully has not been cancelled. This is such a gem on Cartoon Network. It's about a foster home where imaginary friends go after their 'creators' (their 'kids') have grown up and not need them anymore. The animation is fabulously creative and colorful (it's like kids' sketches), and the characters (particularly the blue blob called Blooregard Q. Kazoo) are crazily hilarious. I watch it every so often when I miss being a kid ;).
9. Ferrero Rocher
As chocolates go, this is one of my absolute favorites! It's Italian and it's a bit pricey, but it's also worth it because it pretty much has everything: A whole hazelnut center, encased in a thin wafer shell, filled with nutella/hazelnut cream, and covered in milk chocolate and chopped hazelnuts. Yup, I like my hazelnuts!
10. Flat White
It was only recently, to my great surprise, that I found out that my favorite coffee drink ever is strictly AUSTRALIAN! Heh. I guess that's why I never hear Americans order a flat white on TV or in movies! And, yeah, now that I think about it, when I was at the states, I ordered white coffee or cappuccinos! Huh. How amusing. Here's how to make one:
It's basically like a cappuccino or a latte without all that foam, which, yeah, I don't really like.
So if you ever need to know what kind of coffee I take, it'll be a SOY flat white, no sugar (I'm not strictly lactose-intolerant, but I like the taste of soy milk better) ;D.
Fun meme. You all should go do it :D.
