Day 3
In your own space, talk about your creative process - from what inspires you to what motivates you to how you manage to break through blocks. Does your process change depending on the type of creating you're doing? Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
I...don't really know what my creative process is? For knitting, I tend to be a project-first person--my Ravelry queue is very tightly curated to be things that I really want to knit next, and in the order I want to knit them. So I acquire yarn second, unless it is Madelinetosh in one of several bases, because I love Madelinetosh colors most of all, so I know I will use it. I also have a problem with hand-painted sock yarn, because if it is a colorway I like, I figure I will find a sock pattern I like for it eventually, despite not yet having knit full-sized fingering weight socks. I tend to hoard Handmaiden Casbah Sock for those purchases.
For writing--I wish I had a better recall so I could do ALL THE RESEARCH once and be done, but instead, I mostly end up just starting writing and going back and forth between the writing and the sources I have open in other tabs. If the writing isn't flowing, I may open more windows of MS Word and try various other ideas out, or I may read more source, or I may just write one torturous word at a time until it starts getting better (or it doesn't--because at least if I have something written, I can fix it in edits, which are much easier for me).
But I haven't written regularly since I was in high school, so we'll see if I end up with an actual process if I manage to do the writing Yuletide stories monthly thing this year.
