I am lazy, so please link me your wish list! I know I saw a couple where I went "yay! I could do that!" (
wintercreek, I am looking at you!) but I would have to hunt around to find them. *g*
Standard disclaimer applies: these are surprise!happy!presents lists, and no one should feel guilty or obligated to do them. But if you spot something you could easily give, it would totally make my life magical! :D
- Cards! I love snail mail, of any type. Postcards, Christmas (or other holiday) cards, small poems, care packages, whatever! If you want to send me something, let me know and I'll PM you my address.
- Icons. :D Icons I would particularly like: Bones being badass and sciencey (Bones), anything with Hank McCoy (Beast) in it, anything with Kara Thrace in it (BSG). I also love T.S. Eliot, Gerard Manley Hopkins, Dorothy Parker, and W.B. Yeats. I would love a good church-y icon (especially pulling from Eliot or Hopkins), and also a couple either funny or political queer icons. Especially about bisexual visibility.
- Music? I am an indie folk/indie pop sort of girl, with some rock thrown in, although I have pretty eclectic tastes and am always willing to branch out. I looooooove new music, the more obscure the better. Heh. Shall I list some favorites? There might be lots...Sufjan Stevens, Antony and the Johnsons, Arvo Part, Neko Case, Gillian Welch, Rich Mullins, Belle & Sebastian, Nickel Creek, Bon Iver, Califone, Caroline Herring (I need more Caroline Herring!), Cat Power (I need more Cat Power, if you have any!), David Bazan, David Crowder*Band, The Flobots, The Harlem Shakes, Indigo Girls, Jars of Clay (older or more folky stuff), Johnny Cash, Jon Foreman, Lisa Loeb, The Magnetic Fields, Mount Eerie, Red Molly (need more), Ron Sexsmith, Shearwater, Simon and Garfunkel, Thea Gilmore, TV on the Radio, The Twilight Sad, U2, Vienna Teng, The Wailin' Jennys, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Mumford and Sons, Yo La Tengo (need more). This is why I never tell people my favorite musicians, y'all, THERE ARE SO MANY. I only have two absolute least favorites: The Decemberists and Neutral Milk Hotel. Yeah, I know, I fail as an indiegirl. Whatever. Also, I love hopeful minor key music, particularly Advent music. I can ALWAYS use more Advent (not Christmas) music.
- Pretty calligraphy things. I love decorating with calligraphy, but I suck at doing calligraphing things myself. I'll also take any other relatively ready-made decorating type things. My Etsy favorites might give you a sense of what I like: [http://www.etsy.com/people/cadenzamuse/favorites?ref=favorites]
- Earrings! Once again, my Etsy favorites will probably give you a sense of my jewelry tastes. I'm also looking for the perfect hoop for my cartilege piercing--ideally something small, but with either some pierced/filigree design, or at least some pretty swirls or plants or something. Nothing too "tribal" or stark.
- For you to have as good a holiday as you can? Holidays are hard, especially if you're lonely or grieving or have pain in the ass relatives or are celebrating a holiday that is not the majority/privileged religion's holiday. So I would consider it a special Christmas gift to me if you could take care of yourself, set aside time for yourself to have a little peace, or even let me know if there are ways I could help you have a happier holiday (that even includes calling me on my privileged Christian-centric worldview, please. I promise to listen, to wait at least two hours before responding, and not to snap at/yell at/belittle you).
- Steampunky stuff? Guys, I know steampunk is such a problematic movement in terms of revisionist history of race, but there is so much about the aesthetic that I love. So I would love steampunky accessories, or even slightly renaissance or medieval or goth accessories. My aesthetic is probably a toned down version of Jo's aesthetic, plus a little more bright colors and some more formal, grown-up, fashion-forward structure (like Academichic's A. and E.). No rings, bracelets, or shoes with a heel higher than 1/2", please. Anything else goes. (Tights! Bodices! Cardigans! Gloves! Goggles! Key necklaces! Slightly goth-y skirts! Boots of awesome! Eeee, pretty clothes!) I am a small or extra small up top, have small hands, wear somewhere around a 3-5 in pants (although I'm usually a 2 in fancier stores), and am a 7 in shoes. American sizes, obviously, sorry.
- Plane tickets to Ohio, and to San Francisco, and to New Jersey, and to Germany. Heh. Why do all of my loved ones live sooooo faaaaaar awaaaaaaay? (Hey,
mathsnerd, if I ever manage to come visit my brother in Munich this year, I'll come visit you too!) - Rosetta Stone in either Korean or German. I need to learn German for Hot Guy and my brother (who is going to be working for BMW *crosses fingers* for six months and will probably end up immigrating after he graduates American uni in a year), and my Korean has gotten really sloppy, and it's a lovely language (and an important one for so many of my friends) and I don't want to lose it.
- Rom coms. (Or rom com recommendations.) Cute ones. My sense of humor falls along the incongruity/Schopenhaur theory of humor (yes, I am an improviser who is dating a Ravenclaw-personalitied improviser, why do you ask?)--I dislike humiliation humor or gross-out humor. My favorite rom coms are Saving Face, Runaway Bride, Notting Hill, The Princess Bride (doesn't count, I know), and While You Were Sleeping. I would especially love sweet rom coms with queer or non-white protagonists, or directed by queer or non-white directors.
- There's a couple of books on improvisational comedy that I'd like. Jill Bernard's Small Cute Book of Improv or Impro: Improvisation and the Theatre. Man, guys, if I could do improv and stage management for a living, I totally would. :)
So there you have it. My slightly too long Christmas wish list. Happy holidays to everyone who is celebrating something, and peace and rest to those of you who aren't. I love you all.
P.S. Am feeling slightly less sick. May actually get to be off bed rest in another two days, yay. :D
P.P.S. I am high on codeine. In case that makes this post make a little more sense. :D
