Another quarter come and gone

By the end of today, or really however many hours it takes me to finish my research paper about altered states in film, I will be officially finished with this quarter. Fast times at UC Santa Cruz. It's funny how stagnant time often feels when I'm here, yet how fast each day, week, and month goes by. Yesturday, which was St. Patrick's day, everybody here in building 13 of Kresge East was either studying for finals or getting inebriated. Sometimes it is really weird living here. But I am learning to appreciate it in new ways now that I've been here long enough. Sometimes it is so easy to feel lonely here though, even when there are people all around. It is just too easy to lock myself in my room; my sanctuary. Right now, at this very moment, thinking about living back at my parents house seems bizarre and distant, which is funny because only months ago I was getting very homesick every single time I visited and finally had to return here to this disorderly place. I'm looking forward to being back in Santa Clara for a little while over break though. It will be relaxing and grounding. Even just the fact that I will be able to more or less sleep whenever I want makes me really happy.

Above all, Santa Cruz is a beautiful place to be and I love that the redwood forest is my home. Pohorsky is czech for "in the hills," so I figure that I am definitely fulfilling some destiny of mine by living here in these mountains.
