Scott and I are off to Honduras again for our annual dose of giving. We'll be working in beautiful Puerto Cortes for a week helping a team of eye doctors provide eyeglasses and cataract surgeries for the local populace. As much as I enjoy traveling, I hate packing for trips. I used to travel a lot for my job, so you'd think packing would be second nature to me, but no. I'm better than I used to be, but I'm still the type that considers packing snowshoes for a trip to Cancun in case the plane makes an unscheduled stop in Buffalo. There's always the fear the one time I decide not to pack the travel steamer, I'll check into a hotel room and the curtains will be impossibly wrinkled. It's very likely the hotel will have towels, but why take the chance? An area rug is always nice if you unexpectedly find yourself with a tile floor, and what happens if I wake up at 3am and want a home-made cappucino? It's easy to get carried away, and for every useless accessory I remember to bring, like a pocket vaporizer, I forget something essential, like a belt. What makes packing even more fun is we're going to Indianapolis first, where the temperature has been in the 20s, then Honduras several days later, where 85 is refreshingly cool. This means I need to pack shorts AND gloves. And the waffle iron.
