Break for a fact check.

So, the Christian News Wire, the most Christian of all News Wires, has put out a list of the Top Ten incidents of 'Christian Bashing' for 2008 (link). I think most of them are pretty damn lame (Barack Obama is on the list for merely existing while not being the same brand of Christian as them), but that's not what this post is about. This post is about all the blatant, egregious lying going on in that list. So I'll just take the worst one.

INSTANCE #4: Colorado Law Criminalizes the Bible

SB200, a Colorado state bill recently signed into law, criminalizes the Bible. Section 8 of the bill entitled "Publishing of discriminative matter forbidden" makes publishing the Bible illegal because it contains anti-homosexual passages. This is part of a larger effort to criminalize the expression of certain opinions and beliefs.

Whoever wrote this paragraph has obviously never read Section 8 of the law in question, and decided that making shit up would be easier and more effective than taking 30 seconds to do a google search. As you can see from the text of the law, section 8 is very specific and one would be hard pressed to imagine a situation in which it could be applied to the bible. The section was intended to adress publications put out by a 'place of public accommodation, resort, or amusement' which stated that a long list of categories of people, including gay people were not permitted or welcome at the establishment in question.

Really, the rest of them tend towards obfuscating or omitting the facts, rather than making them up out of wholecloth, but the entire thing does give you the impression they were stretching a little in order to get a list of 10.
