Summer Update
Hey guys!! What's goin on? Just poppin in to say hi. I'm going to try to write more this summer. My schedule has been hectic, as usual!
School Stuff
We finished school 2 weeks ago. It was great. The Tuesday that finals were over all the teachers went to the bar Rock's in town. We got wasted! It was a blast. What was funny was seeing all these goody goody teachers get drunk.. Now for me, getting drunk isn't a big deal, because it's part of my regular social scene, but some of these guys haven't partied since college. So they were getting all kinds of wild and crazy. Shit they were even scaring me. The secretary in the dean's office was grindin on me. LOL Some of the single hottie female teachers were like "I need your number so we can party this summer Wayne" ahhh me and my babes. What can I do?
This summer I'm doing something a little different. I'm working with special education students. Really special kids. I'm working with the autistic, Down's syndrome, and the more severe kids. It's a blast! It's basically babysitting, but we're teaching them life skills. We go shopping, we cook, clean, go to the mall, go to the library, etc. stuff that we normal people do because that's what you do. For them it's a big deal and it's so much fun to see their eyes light up with excitement! I can tell you it's a nice break from "fuck off! You don't know what you're doing!" These kids are great!
My new buddy
I have one kid assigned to me. Jim. He rocks. Jim is a well put together black kid. He looks pretty normal, until you approach him. He's as sweet as can be. So much fun. He's got autism and a few other things. But for the most part he's pretty high functional. He can't really talk, but says a few words, so we use pictures to point out what he wants and needs. He gets excited a lot and I always have to calm him down, but it's so much fun!! He's a blast and I know we're gonna have a great summer together.
Softball
Well, we're 1-2 now. We beat the Espresso Royale last week. I mean seriously. We better had beaten the coffee house hippies! That would've been embarrassing!! We had a pretty good game. Close too. We were wooping them, then they had a good inning. Then we put the finishing touches on it. Whew.
Perfect no more
Man this sucks. I was batting 1.000 for the season until last week. I was 1 for 3. I grounded out my first at bat, then I nailed a line drive to left-center for a base hit. My last at bat I popped a foul ball behind the plate, and the catcher caught it. I was in shock! That RARELY happens in our league! Espeically with a chick behind the plate! So now I'm batting .755 for the season. GRRR Batting average is a lot like GPA. I remember when I got my first "B". I went from a 4.0 to a 3.89 and I had to work my butt just to get it back up to as close as perfect as possible. UGH Well I'm sure my overall batting average will be fine. I'm just a little anal about that. Kinda like my academic life. But I gotta remember it's about the fun right?
Summer Trips
I have couple of trips I'm doin this summer. Hopefully I'll see some of you guys when I go there.
July 11-13 Campit- Bears in the Woods
Now this is a new to me. I've been to Roseland in West Virginia, but never to Saugatuck,MI and I've heard lots about it. I'm goin up with my boy Chris and some others for a weekend of fun, camping, drinkin' some beer and some serious male bonding. I'm soooo pumped.
July 24-27 Washington D.C. area
I will be visiting Chris and Malcolm out in our naton's capitol. I hope to meet all you other bears out there. So keep in touch with me and let me know if we'll be able to hang out because I want to meet you all! I'm really exctied because I've never been to D.C. and I do want to do all the touristy stuff. So that should be cool. Please let Malcolm, Chris, or me know if you're around so we can party it up in our natioin's capitol. Whoopee.
Ok I gotta run now. Gotta get ready for tonight's game. I'll probably hit the batting cages and then run some laps before the game!
