He's another person that he thinks is family (or will, if he doesn't already), so he's partially willing to get into arguments with him because that's what family does. He also enjoys bringing out his more teenager-y side, simply because he thinks Al needs a break every now and then from his Older Than He Seems persona. (And he likes to avoid getting scolded, he thinks it's boring.)
And while he's curious about why he wears a suit of armor, he has his hunches (most of them ridiculous), but isn't going to pry. He understands the value of secrets; if and when he ever finds out about how Al has no body at the moment, he will keep the secret with his life.
For all this, he also trusts him. Al understands the importance of NAKAMA AND BONDS, typical shounen things, and knows that he'd have his back in any situation. In return, he'd definitely watch Al's back. Whenever he needs anything, all he has to do is find him! Also, if he were around for the "OH GOD WE NEED TO SAVE WINRY" incident, he would've been out there immediately to help.
