Venturers last night was fun, they'd decided to have a construction night, making structures from bamboo sticks and rubber bands.
Of course this became a "shooting with stuff we made" night, but all had fun. 8 kids on the floor.
First challenge (only formal one) was that they had 45minutes to create a device to shoot a cardboard tube as far as they could.
The boys fairly well worked individually and came up with three devices, based largely on crossbows, which worked quite well.
The girls went the traditional tripod, which looked very good and very "pioneering"ish but was largely not particularly functional.
The boys wanted to keep playing and so played wargames the rest of the evening, some of the girls made certificates with the Joey craft stuff and a couple of the others played physical games with broomstick handles (also used in the construction) like sparring and hockey. The hockey was fun, esp. when you play with three teams. The boys ended up with some wicked devices and there was about 20 minutes when they were each sitting waiting for the other to fire first. Mexican standoff.
A good night, they all had fun and all got something out of it too. Oh, and lots of them paid their fees - thats always a novelty.
Next week is Scout Shouts - two of the girls are performing.
