i've been thinking a lot lately, about random things. there was a program on tonight, about the problems encountered during human's journies into space. it made me wonder: how far have we really come in the last 100 years? we took giant steps, and great risks of life in the previous decades that we just aren't willing to do anymore. where are the great thinkers? those science, math, and even literary geniuses that help to further the human race? we used to be able to pick out these individuals when they were living, or soon after they died, but none have been lauded in the last 20 years or so. are the great thinkers still out there, and does society just not care anymore, or have they died out?
and how is it that we will spend $20 million plus dollars to remake a movie like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but not pool the resources of, say, five movies, and send another shuttle to Mars, in hopes of fixing the stupid mistakes that prevented us from exploring that planet before? seems like someone doesn't have their priorities in order.
some days it seems like there is so much in the world that i want to know, and understand. that the knowledge base of the human race is so great a collection it couldn't be written down all in one place. then, other days, i wonder why no one with supreme intelligence hasn't just publicly laughed at the whole planet for being so stupid and comprehending so little.
i wonder: are people really worth educating? are we getting to a point as a species where we were start to regress, and lose our 'higher intelligence'?
