A friend of mine at work just told me the most horrible thing.
She had a puppy at home that was a big baby. Just sat around and let the cats and kids do whatever. But he was rather needy, and houdini. He'd get out of anything and run around the neighborhood finding other dogs to play with. People would bring him back and say that he was playing.
Now she had been trying to find a better home for him, someone with more time to play with him and give him the attention he needed. So finally, she took him to the local Humane Society. She made it clear that they wanted a better home for him. She took him in on a Thursday and by Monday she went to get him back. Her kids didn't forgive her for it. When she got there, her dog wasn't there. He wasn't adopted... no. They euthanized him. After 3 days!!
She finally asked what happened and they said that he had food aggression. The dog that would watch the cat eat his food. Someone else finally told her that he attacked another dog. The dog that let 4 and 5 year olds climb all over him.
She got so upset that she went to the dog warden. Now Rex had stayed with the dog warden 3 times when he ran away. The warden always said how sweet and gentle he was. He didn't believe that Rex was Houdini until Rex BROKE his enclosure. He was shocked when she told him that they euthanized Rex for aggression!!
This upsets me greatly. I had great respect for this shelter, and supported it and volunteered. I got one of my rabbits there. I knew they euthanized when necessary, but this was NOT necessary.
They just lost my support. And I will make sure that everyone I know knows about this.
