Have you seen Ponyo yet? They had a preview for it at Comic-Con but it was for the dub, and dubs are dumb.

Nah, and actually I'm not really interested enough to hunt it down and pay a fortune for tickets just to watch The Little Mermaid as told by Miyazaki. I know this is like a sacrilege to you and ses :|

That's why you STEAL it from the INTERNET

Well I WILL when the internet coughs up a dvd rip that I don't have to go searching for. I'm not interested enough to have to do any work whatsoever to watch it.

I won't repeat exactly what I said to chaos about it, because this is public and linked elsewhere, but I'll paraphrase - it looks like the hipster art student's little mermaid. And while I do like aspects of his animation style I don't like it enough when compared to all the other things I could be watching and getting all excited over, like the secret of kells :3

I feel bad saying it, but he's getting really old, and I think that it's sort of his love letter to when his son was a little boy. It's definitely more for kids than most of his other movies.

But eh. I have not see it, should not yet judge, etc etc.

There were a few scenes that were really pretty... like, two. And it was sort of interesting except not really. I wanted to like it, because it's miyazaki, but I was just sort of ambivalent and honestly that the HUGE TEST was him saying he was ok with her being half fish was like the most anticlimactic ending ever. Also again with the OMG HUMANS ARE SO GROSS AND POLLUTE-Y message that he had briefly in Spirited Away, except this time it was a great big club of humans are gross instead of one short scene. Also also the little mermaid is weird enough when you're talking about a young teenage girl, it's even weirder when you're talking about five year olds and now he has to take care of Ponyo forever. idk, it was less cute innocent love and more 'uhhhh ok then'.
