I know most of you won't understand this and that's fine. But frankly while I understand the purpose of things like LIVE LIKE YOU'RE ON FOODSTAMPS weeks and shit like fucking Nickel and Dimed is to be ~helpful~ and teach people ~empathy~ for those sad pathetic ~working poor~ mostly all they do is piss me off. Poverty is not a game for rich people to play, and congrats on jacking yourself off over how enlightened you are for spending a week playing poor when /actual/ poor people don't have the luxury of going back to spending $300 a week on groceries or living in an eight million dollar house. Thanks for the faux sympathy and the backpatting about how you've ~been there~ because for a week you didn't get to eat fucking imported organic mushrooms on your omelette. If you've never been poor maybe you should just shut the fuck up and actually listen to people who have, instead of talking about how you ~get it~ because you fucking don't.
And if you've ever been poor and you want to give yourself an embolism, read Nickel and Dimed. Marvel at the snobby disdainful tone she takes while doing things like wondering how anyone who makes less than $30/hour can have any pride in their work, or whines about how there are POOR PEOPLE outside her cheap apartment and they might MUG HER, not to mention she quits every job she gets with no notice and leaves all her coworkers stranded but THAT'S OK, THEY'RE POOR PEOPLE. Everybody I know who has enjoyed this book and thought it was ~so good~ has been either a rich fuck who grew up with money or a self-hating poor person who thinks if they just BOOTSTRAPS BOOTSTRAPS BOOTSTRAPS a little harder they wouldn't be in this mess.
