This weekend I traveled a lot. On saturday morning, we left for Ohio. We arrived at OSU in the afternoon, and walked around campus with Lila. We had a new ball for Lila, and we kicked it around as we went and she chased after it. However, at one point mother just left it there, and we had to backtrack to find it.
After that we met up with Kim, and got lunch at Subway, where they were apparently unable to understand the concept of "no lettuce." So I had to dissect my sandwich before eating, but it was still ok. Kim has cable TV in her dorm.
Then we went to the hotel, and watched TV. The hotel had cable too, so there was actually stuff on. We watched something about Killer Ants on the Discovery Channel before leaving for dinner. We were supposed to to meet Kim's friends at Olive Garden, but Olive Garden was too crowded, so after trying a few places we ended up at a really fancy steakhouse. Great food (I got escargot and filet mignon), and lots of funny conversation with Kim's college friends.
After dinner, we went back to the hotel and went swimming.
In the morning, we had breakfast at Panera, went to Kim's dorm, and split up. Some people went to the athletic center, some wanted to walk around campus, but I wanted to do neither so I stayed in Kim's dorm and watched TV (Mythbusters).
Monday, we visited Cornell. It was very nice, and the campus was beautiful. After our info session, but before our tour, I got a bagel from a place just off campus. It was very good, and I think I would regularly visit the place if I were a student.
The tour was nice, and there was a spirit of fun around the place. One hall had carvings that were supposed to be professors of the alumni that donated the money for the place. Professors he didn't like were satirical caracatures, including one picking his nose.
There was a story where someone managed to get a pumpkin on top of the clock tower, and no one could get it down for several months until a gust of wind blew it down. Someone later put a disco ball at the top of the tower.
There's a Dragon Day where the architecture students build a huge dragon and the engineering student build their own mythological beast (usually a phoenix), and the two do battle.
Overall, I was impressed by the campus, the facilities, and the food. The only problem is the workload is supposed to be really tough. But there's no knowing exactly how tough and whether or not it would be a problem unless I actually go there.
Also, Cornell used to be called Heathens on the Hill by the other Ivy Leagues before they build their nondenominational chapel. And they have an Atheists and Agnostics Society. Which is pretty cool.
Tonight I went to the East vs. West volleyball game. I arrived near the end of the girl's game, but I still got to see some of it. Then I stayed and watched the boy's volleyball. West started out winning, but lost in the end. They just did worse and worse as the ngiht went on.
