Conan is... a LJ entry!

On saturday I went to the Elmwood Arts Festival thingy to do a thing with Les Amis fencing club. We had expected more people to show up and there was some confusion as to the stage we had planned to perform on. Turned out it didn't exist and we were doing our demonstration on ground level, but it took a while to figure this out so we didn't get started until about 10:30 instead of our scheduled 10:00. However, I did have time to fence with Shawn a bit before the demonstration.

A volunteer with the Festival was going to announce us, but he was having a bit of trouble pronouncing our name. He was close, but he couldn't get the vowel sound in "Les" right. Then we figured it was close enough, and he announced us as the "Lessa Ameal Fencing Club." How he managed to butcher our name so badly is beyond me.

The demonstration itself went smoothly. First we did a line-up, and then me and Shawn fenced foil while Brian explained the action. After we fenced for a while, we switched to two Epee fencers while Linda explained the action. Then another switch for saber, with Dan explaining the action. After this, we took a volunteer from the audience, gave him a mask, glove, and foil, and let him try to hit Dan. All in all it was pretty good.

After the demonstration, there was more some fencing before we went back to our booth.

Once we were back, I manned the booth while Shawn and Brian fenced saber. Brian broke his saber blade with an parried overhead cut against Shawn, so they switched to Epee. They managed to destroy a mask and an Epee handle before Shawn had to leave.

So the rest of the time I hung around the booth, until Linda asked me to fence. So we fenced for a while, which was fun. Then later I fenced Epee with Dan, and then later when my parents showed up to pick me up they wanted to see me fence so I fenced with Linda again.

Today I finished reading Great Expectations. That means I'm done with all my summer assignments.

Also today I went with my family to see The Brothers Grimm. It was a pretty good movie.
