I made it back from Mexico alive and reasonably well, with only a few bugbites and a good 'ol sunburn on my back and arms. That made it fun wearing my backpack through various airports across the day on Saturday, but alas another great week in southern Baja has come and gone. I went with a group from my home church SCC to Todos Santos, BCS, Mexico, home to the famed 'Hotel California'. This being where we stayed for the week with the Four Square Pastor, Joel, and his family. We built a fence around the church property, a rock retaining wall behind the carpa (tent) church, and (what I helped with) tarring the roof of their former church building that is now their sunday school building. The guys slept in the carpa all week, most of us on the stage with air mattresses, which left us with many bug bites all over, most likely from flying ants. It wasn't pretty at all. Then on Wednesday we went south about 20 min. to El Pescadero, and did a VBS/Health Fair ministry in the town park. However, the same ministry we carried out the following day was much more effective, since it was at a migrant worker camp, which looked more like a prison camp in reality. Apparently the kids there usually are so bored that they end up fighting with each other, and we were able to bless them with all of the parachute, balls and jump ropes that we brought along. Friday, our last full day, we packed up everything and moved into a hotel in town for the night, which was very good for 250 pesos/night (About $25). That afternoon we went to Playa San Pedrito, just north of Pescadero, where we had a baptism of Brian and Drew King, as well a man Bobby and his wife, whose place we were visiting to get to the beach. Now this guy Bobby apparently violated parole a few years ago, and though he's still wanted in the US, Mexico won't extradite him (even if Mex. could realistically afford to do so), but he's decided to dedicate his life to God and make a new start with developing multi-million properties down there and plans to give the money to advance evangelical ministry locally. So between that and bodyboarding in 8-foot waves, followed by shopping and hangin' around Todos Santos, Friday was a fun day. Then in the PM we went to the service at Joel's church, and got prayed over as a team, which was quite an experience. Now I almost forgot to mention that I translated two sermons for Pastor Bill, on Sunday morning and Tuesday night bible study, which I handled pretty well, even with a few tricky spots and Bill straying from the outlines he'd given me, per usual. So the 30-something pictures should be up sometime this week, despite my computer still being out of commission, and the fact that I limited my pictures to quality and not quantity, having gone so many times. Now I gotta start looking for a temp job here and get in an app. to consolidate my student loans before the rates go up July 1.
