Half Man, Half God - All Hero, Garreth Rous introduces us to Percy Jackson, a 21st century boy with a quest to save the world from war and destruction - from the ancient gods of Olympos!
Percy Jackson is the main character in a series of books by Rick Riordan.
Percy is a half-blood, which means half mortal and half Greek god. His father is Poseidon, the Sea God, and his mother is Sally Jackson, a mortal. Percy is one of those children who gets shunted from school to school because half-bloods seem to attract Greek monsters who tend to blow everything up!
Now, for three summers Percy has been, and still is, going to a place called Camp Half-Blood - a magic camp for children like him. The Director of the Camp is Dionysus, the wine god, and the activities director is Chairon, the great centaur from the Greek legends.
Percy’s friend, Grover Underwood, a satyr, his other friend Annabeth Chase, a half-blood also, and Percy’s half-brother Tyson, a cyclops, go on quests to save Western civilisation from the evil of the Titans. Percy is also part of a prophecy which states that he has got to either save or destroy the gods by the time he reaches his sixteenth birthday.
These books are easy to read, although some of the words are hard to pronounce - especially some of the Greek gods’ names. I found them a very good series of books and would certainly recommend them to others, especially as it mixes a modern-day story line with Greek mythological history. These books would definitely appeal to children of my age and upwards - even my parents enjoyed them!
Thanks Garreth (Arif) Rous (aged 10) for this review, sounds like a rip roaring read!
