Interlude 4/4 - Martin meets another RichardsontiwtinOctober 31 2011, 10:42:41 UTC
"Well, Captain Crieff, soon to be Captain Richardson, welcome to the family, dysfunctional as it is."
Martin shook the outstretched hand and shook his head with a smile. "You Dad could end up First Officer Crieff, you know! We'll only be able to have that discussion after I've proposed."
The small snort he got in reply clearly said ' Yeah, right...'
"Come on, let me drive you home," Martin said turning back towards the van.
"No, that's okay, I'm meeting my friends at the cinema just over there. They're waiting right outside for me."
Martin looked across the car park and sure enough there was a cinema within easy walking distance.
"Well, it was really nice to meet you, and be careful crossing that road," Martin said glancing back at the cinema. It wasn't far but he still didn't like leaving her in a car park.
"Yes, dad," she mocked as he fished out his keys. He'd just got his key in the lock when he realised she was still stood there, and the look of vulnerability was back.
"Hannah?"
"Can I.... Well, last year I had to spend Christmas with mum and her boyfriend, and Dad promised he'd have me for Christmas this year.... But, well, that was before you two got together and-"
"Hannah, I came all the way up here to meet you because I know how important you are to Douglas. And I like you... You're so much like your dad, how could I not? I was sort of assuming Christmases, summer holidays, Cargo flights if we're going somewhere interesting and you have time off... Christmas is a while off and I was assuming we'd be seeing you before then."
"You'd take me on flights?"
"Perks of being related to the captain," he said with a grin, one which she returned.
Martin got into the car ridiculously happy that he'd managed to end the conversation seeming like the adult and then a thought struck him.
"Of course, he hasn't said 'yes' yet," he said through the window.
She rolled her eyes. "Oh, he will... Dad knows a good thing when he sees it." Martins smile turned grateful as he started his van with a mechanical cough and splutter.
"Oh, and I'll email you the link to the dress I'll be needing!" She called to him as she turned.
"Dress?" he asked poking his head out of the window to call after her.
"For the wedding... I can't be bridesmaid without a new dress."
"Who's bridesmaid? There's no bride!" Martin called called back, confused.
"Yours, I guess... I'm thinking in something in black. Don't worry, I'll make it something you can pay online!" She shouted with a final wave.
Martin shook his head and smiled, and then pulled out of his pocket the greasy pizza slices ready for snacks on his long drive home to Douglas.

Really ought to be writing my lab report, but I had to read this. It's so fantastic, and so adorable! Haha, love Hannah, and the whole thing is just perfect. ♥
