Marshall wasn’t sure what he was doing. He’d been sitting in his car outside of Joey’s place for a half hour and wasn’t sure on what the hell he should do. Why the hell did his band mates make him come over here again? Oh yeah, Joey was sick.

Sighing, Marshall got out of his car. He wasn’t too fond of his band mates right now, he absolutely hated taking care of people when they were sick, but Singer was on vacation with Cash and Bryan was on a date with Ian. Johnson, well it was Johnson, ‘nuff said.

Approaching his door, Marshall gave into the thought that he was going to spend the rest of the night with a sick person. Let’s hope he didn’t give Marshall throat herpes or something.

Lifting his hand he knocked on the door, and was greeted with a red, puffy eyed Joey with a bright red nose. Seeing how miserable he looked Marshall’s heart melted a bit.

“Aw man, you didn’t need to come. I don’t want to get you sick too.”

Marshall shook his head, he even sounded miserable. There was no way that he could leave him alone feeling like this, god damn his band mates. Eyeing him, Marshall pushed past him into his apartment. He was in for a long night.

“I’m not leaving you alone Joey, so get your ass on the couch and close the damn door.”

Joey sighed as he closed his door and shuffled back over to his couch and plopped himself back down. He really didn’t want to give Marshall what he had, it would be bad form.

Closing his eyes, he tried to stop the throbbing behind his eyes. The nausea he could live with, the temperature and overall feeling of shittiness was just too much to handle.

Marshall placed his hand against Joey’s forehead and frowned, he was burning up. Taking his hand back he went looking for a thermometer, placing it in his mouth Marshall sat back and waited.

The whole time Joey’s eyes were slitted to watch Marshall. He really wished one of the other guys were here, he didn’t want Marshall seeing him like this. No one wants the person they like beyond belief to see them at their worst, it’s everyone’s own personal nightmare.

Taking the thermometer out of Joey’s mouth Marshall’s eyes widened. “Jesus Christ Joey! Your temp’s at a 103!”

Joey grimaced, no wonder he felt like shit. He’d known he’d had a temperature but he didn’t know that it was that bad. This is what he got for staying up late and not getting enough sleep, horrible nausea, a pounding headache, and a temp of 103.

Marshall immediately got up and rifled through Joey’s medicine cabinet. Pulling out a bottle of Tylenol, he popped the lid and poured two out and went to get a glass of warm water. Somehow all the things his mom did for him when he got sick came flooding back to him in no time at all.

Walking back to the couch, Marshall held the glass for Joey and gave him the Tylenol as he carefully watched the other put them in his mouth. Carefully, he handed the glass over to him. “Take tiny sips, the warm water should soothe your stomach some.”

Joey took tiny steps and watched Marshall over the glass, his red hair falling over his eyes so the other wouldn’t know that he was looking at him. He couldn’t believe that Marshall was here and doing this for him.

Putting the glass down, Joey smiled softly at Marshall; he didn’t really know what to say to the other. “Thanks.”

Marshall smiled; he knew that Joey was at lost for words. So, to ease his discomfort, he sat down on the couch with him and looked at the TV. Looking over at him, he raised an eyebrow “So what are we watching?”

~

Joey was cuddled up against Marshall’s chest, watching Freddy vs. Jason. Somehow, during the movie marathon they were having, he had managed to snuggle up against him and stay there. Honestly, he was a bit surprised that Marshall even let him, he never before acted like he had liked him, but he wasn’t going to think too much into it.

Breathing in Marshall’s scent, Joey let out a contented sigh. He was going to enjoy this why’ll he could.

“Okay so seriously, Freddy could so kick Jason’s ass. Why did the make this movie in the first place?”

Joey chuckled lightly; he wasn’t exactly up to par for a full out laugh. Closing his eyes for just a second to savor Marshall’s arms around him, he opened them again to look at the other’s gorgeous pair of brown eyes. “Because no one has ever seen Jason and Freddy fight before. Besides, Freddy needs people to believe in him in order to roam around. With Jason, you only have to wander into Crystal Lake and he’ll take your head off with a machete.”

Marshall’s frown was incredibly cute to Joey. He hadn’t spent this much time alone with him ever, and he found himself enjoying it immensely.

“Nuh uh, Freddy wins hands down. He’s way smarter then Jason.”

Shaking his head slightly so as not to cause him to want to curl into a ball, Joey smiled at Marshall. “Jason doesn’t need to be smart to kick Freddie’s ass, big beats smart every time.”

Closing his eyes, Joey took deep breaths to try and keep the water he’d been sipping down. He had a feeling it wasn’t going to be able to keep it down.

“No way Thunderpants, Freddie’s going to win this fight.”

Marshall glanced down and saw Joey’s pale face. Without even thinking, he picked the other up in his arms and carried him into the bathroom. Setting him down gently near the toilet he rubbed his back as the other threw up what was in his stomach into the white porcelain.

Joey gave another dry heave before wiping his mouth with the back of his hand and resting his head on the floor. He felt so incredibly embarrassed right now he didn’t even know how he was going to face Marshall.

Shifting his head, he cracked his eyes open to see Marshall flushing the toilet and grabbing another glass of water for him. He couldn’t even think of drinking anything at the moment.

Marshall picked Joey up and let him rest against his arms as he held the cup of water towards him. He saw him shake his head negatively towards the glass. Smiling softly he shoved the glass lightly into his hands, “It’s not for you to drink; it’s for you to rinse your mouth out with.”

Taking the glass gently into his hands, Joey swished the water around in his mouth and spat it out into the open toilet. He never would have thought to do that if he was by himself. Leaning his head against Marshall’s shoulder he felt himself being picked up and carried away.

Marshall was just going to lay Joey down on his bed and go clean up out in the living room, that was his plan, but Joey wanted him to stay. Sighing softly, he climbed into bed with the bassist and wrapped his arms around his warm body. He could really get used to this.

Joey enveloped himself in Marshall’s scent; just having him here made all his aches and pains go away. No wonder he loved this boy. Eyes slightly heavy, Joey looked at Marshall. “Would you stay with me the entire night?”

Marshall’s smile was soft as he looked at the red head, how could he not? “Yes Joey, I’ll stay the entire night.”

Joey closed his eyes and snuggled further into Marshall’s arms. “Would you mind singing me to sleep?”

Running his fingers through Joey’s hair, Marshall thought of a song to sing to him. “Twinkle, twinkle little star…”

Joey weakly punched him in the arm. “Not that, a real song Alex.”

Smiling softly at him, he sighed and started again. “Baby, take it off, Checkered thighs on a pretty pawn. This vicious velvet ain’t enough. So baby, make a move, my neon eyes are set on you. The devil’s language…”

Joey’s eyelids sank lower and lower with each line of High Hopes. Marshall’s voice soothing him to sleep, the last thing he heard before he sank into his dreams.

Marshall stopped singing as he felt the even breaths of Joey. This boy tugged at his heart strings. Shifting slightly so he could get up to take care of his apartment he felt Joey’s arms tighten around. Settling back down, Marshall closed his eyes, he wasn’t going anywhere.

~

Joey woke up to Marshall’s fingers running through his hair. He felt better then he did before but he wouldn’t say he was a hundred percent. Sighing, he opened his eyes to see Marshall’s smiling face, his heart literally tugged in his chest.

“Hey sleepy, you feeling better?”

Joey nodded his head as he looked at him, he couldn’t believe this gorgeous boy was in bed with him, and not even that, the fact that he had stayed to take care of him was wondrous.

Marshall touched his cheek gently before getting up out of bed, he really needed to go. He had promised his mom the other day that he’d be over today to hang with his family.

“Okay, well take it easy and don’t eat anything that would upset your stomach, I have to go hang out with my family but I’ll call to check up on you.”

Joey watched as Marshall headed towards his bedroom door to leave, he couldn’t let him leave with out him knowing, “Hey Marshall…”

Marshall stopped at the door and looked back at him “Yes?”

Joey just looked at him, he couldn’t do it. The friendship they’d formed over night would break if he did, and he couldn’t bear the thought of it happening. Not because he didn’t believe anything would happen between them, but because he didn’t want to loose this new relationship he had with the pianist. “Um… thanks for taking care of me.”

Joey saw his face soften towards him, as if he knew what he was going to say instead of what he had. His eyes showed a feeling Joey wasn’t sure he’d ever seen on Marshall’s face before.

Peering back at the boy on the bed Marshall’s heart warmed at Joeys unsaid words. God, how had he come to fall for this boy in just one night? Shaking his head slightly he smiled. “Any time Joey.”

And with those words, he left his apartment. One thing was for sure, this was going to make tours and practices way more interesting.
