Legba vs. the heating system

Oct 06, 2005 22:22

This morning, the landlord turned on our heat. I was a little surprised that he didn't wait for the cold to prove itself by lingering for a few days, but I guess the weather report does predict overnight lows in the 30s and 40s for the foreseeable future.

Anyway, I realized that the heat was on when I was awakened at 7:30 in the morning by Legba slinking around the apartment, howling in terror. He was definitely frightened; he was doing the low slinky creep characteristic of fear, and kept going under the bed (and howling from there, great).

I finally got back to sleep for awhile, but he kept this up on and off until I left the house around 12:30. He seems to have settled down since I've been back this evening, but I can't think of an explanation other than that he's terrified of the heating system. Which is weird, since he lived here LAST year and I don't remember him flipping his shit when the heat got turned on then, but I don't have any other candidate explanations. He might be smart enough to fear the treat bag, but he is still a weird little guy.

He also had a recurrence of his chin acne this past week, but it seems to have cleared up after repeated washings with antibacterial soap and applications of triple antibiotic ointment, so I'm glad I didn't call the vet. They'd probably have wanted him to come back in so that they could bill me for YET ANOTHER wellness exam.

And finally, a cute picture of Legba and Bart hanging out in the window:
