domesticity

Perhaps due to yesterday's pants-shopping trials, when I got to the gym today I had "Baby Got Back" stuck in my head like a persistent aural nettle. It didn't help that someone sang it at karaoke last week, either.

I hate getting to the gym by bus on Saturday; normally, it's pretty convenient, since it's on both the #28 and #80 routes; the #28 is a straight shot to my house and the #80 goes to the Memorial Union where, in the evening, I can pick up the #81, which also goes to my house. The #28 doesn't run on the weekend, however, and the #80's service is drastically reduced. And there's always at least a 10-minute wait to get the #80 THERE no matter which bus I take from the square.

I prevailed, however, and had a pretty good work-out--I lifted some weights and did 30 minutes on "constant RPM training" on the exercise bike, which is harder than the "rolling hills" program I use sometimes. I've changed my warm-up slightly; I used to do three sets of 50 crunches each and two sets of 80 oblique lifts (40 on each side), but now I'm trying to do two sets of 80 crunches each and I've increased the oblique lift sets to 90 (45 on each side). I'd do them at home on days when I don't go to the gym except that last time I tried doing crunches at home, I hurt myself.

I was rather taken aback when I entered the cardio room and saw Jeremy, a member of the soc faculty, on one of the elliptical machines. I think I did kind of a ridiculous double-take before saying hi. I didn't notice him leave, though; I was absorbed in Astro City: The Tarnished Angel. It was really good. I like reading graphic novels on the exercise bike; it's hard for me to concentrate on really dense text while pedaling, but a graphic novel is just right.

I wore the pair of jeans that I DID get a chance to try on today, and I think I could probably shrink them, too. Again, they're not HUGE, just kind of loose. This is what happens when I shop at the thrift store, I guess; I tried on several pairs of pants and all the others were just too tight. But I got two pairs for $8, and I think I should be able to shrink them to a better fit, so I'm not complaining too much.

I also changed the sheets on my bed (everyone applauds me for my regular sheet-changing regime, I dunno, I love linens, I like changing them) and turned the mattress, which I've been meaning to do but putting off because it's a difficult task when you're a Creature of Very Little Size and the cats of course keep wanting to hop up on it. And I washed the bedspread, which I've also been meaning to do for awhile. It looks, as I thought it would, very sharp with the turquoise sheets.

Then I watched Cold Case while unmaking the hat I'd started and starting over with a bigger hook. It's coming along nicely, and I think the size increase was a good idea. Cold Case was good, as usual--it figures I'd discover it just when I started having plans most Sunday nights. I really, REALLY want to see next week's episode, too; the preview promised me a 30-year-old Rocky Horror Picture Show-related murder with Barry Bostwick as some kind of crazed fundamentalist. Man.
