Hey! My favorite Jane Yolen picture book EVER, Dove Isabeau, is a freaking Child Ballad! #34, to be precise.
http://www.songlyrics.com/song-lyrics/Unknown/Miscellaneous/Kemp_Owyne/85607.html I recognized the true suitor's name (Kemp Owen, or possibly Owain, or something similar). :p
mogigraphia, I love the Frankie Armstrong version of "Mr. Fox" and am very irritated with my local and university libraries for failing to carry either The Garden of Love or Lovely on the Water, which seem to be veritable treasure troves of Child Ballads I Want, including "Kemp Owen." Dammit.
...Okay, even Amazon doesn't have those albums. Jeebus.
...Lovely on the Water is available on eBay... in VINYL. Christ.
In conclusion: I've been bitching about folk song availability, so this is not a GIP. But that's
connors_mom and me back in high school. She's not REALLY a foot taller than me. :p She says that it feels like that photo was taken a million years ago, and it really does, although in fact it was about eight. It would have been after the spring play my junior year, anyway, because I shaved my head at the cast party. (In the spring play my senior year, I played not one but TWO male characters. Many audience members apparently believed me to be a sophomore whose voice hadn't broken yet.)
On the occasion of the photo, anyway, we might actually have been on our way to hang out with
ladyneight, or perhaps we were gothing it up just the two of us; I don't remember exactly. I do remember, however, that we made quite a splash at the mall.
ETA: I could have sworn, two minutes ago, that my thesis draft was at 68 pages, but I'm not going to complain now that it's suddenly at 75.
