when your parents are academics, it's a special kind of job that they think is totally useless

Am at the office listening to sound files trying to figure out what people meant when they said "okay." Also whether they were laughing ruefully, derisively, embarrassedly, or what. Can you believe my mother asks dubious questions about the marketability of my skills when I talk to her on the phone?

Anyway, my left knee hurts like a son of a bitch, and I have no idea why. It started hurting yesterday about midway through the day, so it seems unlikely that it was a gym injury from Friday; in that case it would have hurt when I woke up, which it didn't. Compounding the mystery is the fact that I didn't DO anything yesterday. I mean nothing. I did not leave the apartment, I did not go down the basement stairs, I did not attempt to engage in healthful exercise of any kind--mostly I just sat. I did some dishes and cleaned the stove, but that still didn't involve a lot of knee action. And when I noticed that my leg hurt, there was no event in my short-term memory causing me to go "aha!" either.

So eventually I went to bed, and when I woke up this morning, it hurt BAD. It pains me when I extend my leg fully AND when I bend it to too sharp an angle. The hell? Apparently frippy woke up in mysterious pain this morning, too; perhaps it's the alignment of the planets. It had better be better by Tuesday. I don't want to miss fencing.

Some of you are supposed to be sending me stuff for someone. Remember, I want to have it by next Monday (2-21) if possible. Please email me if you're planning to send something but don't think it will make it by then.
