When I was very much younger and first saw Return of the Jedi, I refused to believe that the rancor was dead.  Not in a "he's gonna come back and get me" kind of way, but "No, he's just knocked out.  He'll be okay, he's gonna get back up after Luke's gone and be just fine."  My brain refused to accept that this big beastie could die, and I don't think I actually saw him as a monster at all.  Sure, he ate a Gamorrean guard, but the Gamorreans had been really mean and so he was really helping Luke, right?

No real point to this other than I love monsters, and apparently always have.
