Today was certainly an interesting one. Both Terri and I woke up within a couple of hours of each other and, with her entering my room and taking my bed captive (heehee, she's so cute when she does that), we talked and laughed for a short while. We then finally mustered up the will to get dressed and set out on our mission: To find a new kitty! Despite the fact that we miss Boo terribly and still have hopes of finding him -- or him finding us -- as well as the fact that Boo can never be replaced, we still wanted to get a wee kitten (A) because we miss being around kittens and (B) because, due to Boo's absence, there was a serious lack of feline energy that needed to be reintroduced. Thus, off we went!
First, we went to Pet Advantage with no luck. Then, PetSmart out in Williston, which only had a couple of adult cats up for adoption. No kittens, no out-right buys. When we got back into the car, I called up PetCo on Williston Road in South Burlington to see if they had any kittens for sale. They kindly replied "no," but suggested Noah's Ark in Winooski. Since Terri had the same idea moments before, we agreed to head there next. Once we arrived, we found they had numerous kittens there, both pure-bred and non. Both of our eyes went wide when we saw that the store wanted $150 for a regular house cat....and when I say house cat, I mean a mutt, nothing of a pedigree nature. Out of their fuckin' minds, they were! Upon seeing this, Terri admitted to me that she would rather go to Plattsburgh to buy a kitten. I asked for the time; it was 2:10 and I had to be at work at 5. After a moment's thought, we decided to spring for it. Don't you just love spontaneous moments? ::cackles maniacally::
So, on we flew at high-speed to Plattsburgh and we arrived at the pet store at Skyway Shopping Center, the same store where we got our ferret, Hunter, from. We quickly went in and found several kittens together in a large cage, some vocal, some not. The most vocal was a lone Siamese cat that cost about $230 or so. The others were mutt kittens that ran for $10. At first, Terri and I were eyeing a gray kitten with white paws that seemed to gaze at us curious. And when the shopkeeper came 'round and showed us which were the males and which were females, we spotted the runt....a tiny dark tabby who was minding his own business, trying to use the litter box when the employee snatched him up rather abruptly. This irked us a bit as we wanted him to finish what he was doing. Nevertheless, he was incredibly sweet, well-behaved, and loved to climb up to our shoulders and perch there. The deal was signed, Terri got some toys for him, and we were off to return to Burlington.
He was so precious and well-behaved on the way back. As long as we didn't close him up in the cardboard box that was provided, he was absolutely fine. It was such a joy having him as we sped back to Vermont. We had to hurry because I knew time wasn't on my side; more than likely, I was going to be late for work. About ten minutes 'til, I called up my assistant manager, Rich, to warn him I would be late, but I was on my way. We took I-89 to Williston Road, got to University Mall, I hauled ass into Sbarro and clocked in at 5:00 on the dot! Many thanks to Terri for her awesome driving. I just really wish that I could've returned home with her to see Pedro's reaction at the newest addition to the family. So far, he's being adorable and sweet and he seems to be taking to his new surrounds fairly well. I know that, with time, he'll be completely at ease and comfortable with us. Now, we MUST get a collar and tag for him. Oh shit, before I forget, his name is Malachai.
