Character History:
Yuuji Sakamoto is the class representative for class F. But before we even talk about life at the Academy, let's highlight some of the things shared to us by flashbacks in the anime. Yuuji was actually considered a prodigy in his childhood. He was also best friends with Shouko Kirishima (the class representative for class A). In one of the flashbacks he is shown teaching history to Shouko in the sandbox at the local park. Later on it is discovered that the reason why he landed in class F was because he didn't want to study. He believes that grades aren't as choked up as the teachers say they are, or should be. So because of this, he becomes incredibly lethargic about school.
This all changes when his best friend, Yoshii Akihisa, expresses how angry he was when the exam proctor denied Mizuki Himeji (a highly intelligent girl, who, unfortunately got sick during the middle of testing) the opportunity to retest. Yoshii pitches his idea to his classmates to battle against the higher level classes in order to get Himeji where she should be, and to also get their class more privileges, like having actual desks instead of cardboard fruit cartes. So they head out with their plan and everything goes smoothly until they get to the last battle. Yuuji, confident that he's got the exam battle in the bag, makes a bargain with Shouko and agrees to do whatever she wants if he loses. Unfortunately, Yuuji overestimated his knowledge and ironically misses one of the elementary level questions over Japanese history. Because of that, and the bargain he made with Shouko, Yuuji is forced to go on a dreaded date with Shouko.
He'd be completely fine with it, if Shouko wasn't a complete loon. She's completely obsessed over the idea of marrying him one day. And, because of this, Yuuji is forced into doing many things with her. For example during one of their dates he is forced to see a sappy romance movie on an endless loop. Another instance would be him participating in his own faux marriage at a theme park. He even gets shocked for just looking at a girl in passing when he and his friends are at the pool.
To serve as a filler between plot, Yuuji, Yoshii, and Hideyoshi are paired into a group with a mission to find the most treasures and by the end of the episode Yuuji and Yoshii acquire a special type of bracelet that enables them to create the force-field they need to have Summon Battles. Unfortunately for Yuuji, his breaks a little while after as it only works for dumb students. If the wearer studies freely and gains new knowledge then it won't work for the user anymore.
Later on, Yuuji and Yoshii devise a devious plan to release the answers for the next exam. This of course will get the two in trouble, but they go on with it to stop any ulterior motives the representative for class B might have had. (They needed help getting into the room where they stored all the tests. Yoshii, brain that he is, accidentally tore a box he was carrying and used one of the crates they had in class F. Unfortunately for some of Yoshii's classmates, the crates he had chose had something special underneath them. One of the things that mattered to Yuuji was a marriage license Shouko managed to get him to sign - she would use that to bully Yuuji into doing anything she wanted.) After serving the planned detention, which is something ever student has to go through whenever they fail a Battle Summon, he starts to take studying seriously and begins to bulk up his summons points (points are something like a GPA. Class A students tend to have higher points while Class F students tend to have lower points) for the next rematch against class A.
Because of Yuuji, they make it all the way to class B. But, unfortunately due to some odd bout of misfortune when the school cracks and caves in they lose.
Personality:
Yuuji's a pretty smart guy. Not only was he a child prodigy, he was also chosen to be the representative for class F. Fumizuki Academy only chooses the the smartest student from each class to represent their designated class as a whole. The unfortunate thing about Yuuji is that he's extremely lazy and prefers sleeping than paying attention, or jotting down notes. He would probably fall under the lazy genius syndrome if he actually put any effort into studying. But, as mentioned in the history section: Yuuji has a strong dislike for tests. He thinks they're a pointless way to show how much the student has learned. In fact he even states that he wants to show the Academy that grades don't really matter outside of school.
Since he has the power to do so, he appoints himself as the class strategist. He understands what his classmates can and cannot do. He also uses whatever information he has to the best of his ability. A great example of this would be his take over of Class E. He knew the overall outcome wouldn't be what the others were wishing for and was really banking in on Himeji's score in the end. As the series progresses, his strategies change and start to focusing on the weaknesses each class tends to have. Unlike the other characters Yuuji doesn't really have a set course he's good at. He has a decent understanding in most of the courses offered in the school. His foresight is amazing, and because of this he is able to lead Class F into many victories.
Yuuji, even though he doesn't show it much, cares deeply for his friends. Take Yoshii for example. Yuuji usually uses Yoshii as a scapegoat to inform other classes that Class F would like to engage in a Summons Test War. This normally results in Yoshii coming back looking like he had just gotten out of a fight. Despite the stuff he puts Yoshii thorugh, he's there for him when the boy truly needs him. He agrees to Yoshii's unrealistic plan to get more proper equipment for their class, and he also let's Yoshii stay the night at his house whenever he needs to. Yuuji, for some weird reason, can also understand Yoshii's facial expressions. Even though this was said as a joke he is usually dead on with his guesses.
Also, despite all the things Shouko does to him, he still cares for her when it comes down to it. After the failed faux wedding he goes off to find the guy who mocked Shouko's dream and ends up beating (and getting) the shit out of him. He later returns and tells Shouko that he admires her dream of loving one person that deeply, but that he was the wrong choice. Later on he jumps in after Shouko to save her when the school collapses and admits that he was worried over her safety.
Yuuji is cool, collected and isn't the type to mince his words together. He can be very blunt when he has to be. He's not the type of person who would freak out when in a new place. In fact he probably wouldn't mind it so long as Shouko didn't pop out of no where. Since he's usually a collected person it takes a lot to push Yuuji off edge. Anything involving his future with Shouko or stealing that marriage license Shouko threatens him with would be a couple of things that would piss him off. He acts like himself when he's around girls or boys. He only gets fidgety or nervous when he's around Shouko. As mentioned above he was truly worried over her when she fell in, and he isn't the type to freely admit something like that.
Powers:
Yuuji can activate a Shoukanjuu, which is this tiny little "avatar" that can be used to fight with during battles. Each Shoukanjuu has a specific fighting weapon and is supposed to have slight similarities with it's summoner. Yuuji's Shoukanjuu fights with brass knuckles. This is what Yuuji's Shoukanjuu normally looks like. In one of the episodes the machine that controls the force field breaks, this causes all of the Shoukanjuu's to age. This is what Yuuji's Shoukanjuu looks like aged up.
Unfortunately, a teacher has to be present in order for a summon battle to happen. They also have to be within school grounds in order for the force field to reach them. Even though Yuuji was given a special bracelet to bypass the system and do a summon without a teacher his breaks later on.

Yuuji's curiosity got the better of him as he cautiously roamed down the hall. He had discovered that he wasn't dead, and that he had a couple of outfits to choose and change into. It beat being in that damn school uniform after all. It's not like he didn't mind it--but school was just boring. Boring and tedious. Grades were a load of crock, and he already knew what he wanted to do without any of the teachers taking him by the hand and practically guiding him down the right road. Even though he was in class F he wasn't stupid like Akihisa. He just chose not to exert any of his knowledge. And, because of that, he became lazy.
School was a drag, but he put up with it just so he wouldn't upset his parents. They were practically shocked when their baby boy landed in class F. Boy he sure remembered that awkward conversation he had with them when he came home after finding out what class he placed in. 'Why don't you exert yourself Yuuji? You were so smart when you were younger, what happened?' Studying and paying attention in class soon turned into sleeping and zoning out.
As he made his way down the hall he started to wonder where his friends were. He frowned slightly and hoped that Shouko didn't make it with him. It's not that he hated her, oh no, he just worried over his own health and physical well being if she had somehow came with him. He didn't want to think of the new possibilities she could do to him. New place, new ideas... she could get really creative whenever she wanted to. Yuuji groaned and visibly paled.
"Some part of me wishes I was kidnapped by aliens. Aliens that are allergic to girls." He paused and chuckled lightly to himself. "Heh, now I'm starting to think like Akihisa."

mmmnhh--I got ya Shouko... [the sound of snoring can be heard as Yuuji tosses and turns.] don't worry, I'm not gonna drop you--[more snoring.] ow quit movin' around like that dammit, or I'll--drop you.... Okay this could be the fact that I'm tired as all hell right now, but--from what I understand Yuuji won't be able to activate (not that he can since it has an outside of school use restriction) his Shoukanjuu.
