Hello.
It's Singapore's National Day today (9th August), so, Happy 46th Birthday, Singapore.
Even though I might be constantly complaining about the way things work here, I cannot deny that I do feel proud of country, with regards to certain issues.
I used to be more patriotic than this, but growing up changed all that. Somehow, growing up made me more impervious to the brainwash that the education system has been trying to do to us back in primary and secondary school. Nonetheless, I won't deny that I do love Singapore the way it is.
I grew up in a country where it is safe for us to roam the streets at night. Safe for us to sleep with doors unlocked. So much that I have taken the security for granted and have this annoying tendency to leave my bag unzipped while traveling.
That said, as a citizen of Singapore, I think it gives me the rights to love and hate my country as I wish, since I have grown up in Singapore my entire life.
What annoys me is when foreigners, come into our country for jobs or education, and criticise it to no end. Especially certain Australians. You have gone back to Australia, and you're living there. You don't need to tweet about how you don't care about our National Day because it does not concern you.
Stop being grateful for not being in Singapore anymore. No one is asking you to come back anyway. You act like everything is better where you live, but you know what? Being snobby will be your downfall.
Yes, just needed to get this off my chest.
