I finally get off my fat white butt and get myself a new flatscreen, and just after me and my flatmate spend FOREVER setting the whole thing up, I discover there's massive problems with the actual computer.
I've also discovered that I need to re-format Marvin the iPod, since all my music was uploaded on a Mac computer, and it needs to be re-done so I can upload on a Windows machine (all our computers in our flat are Windows). BUT that means I will lose all my music in the process, and will need to load every damn thing back on.
I don't even have my own computer. I do all this stuff at the office or at my parents', but honestly I don't want the responsibility of taking care of such an intricate piece of technology. It freaks me out. So I don't download music either, I don't have an iPod or mp3 player, I still play CDs on my walkman. I'm low tech, what can I say?
I'm just wondering what are the best Liz Phair albums to get into? My co-worker brought the album Somebody's Miracle into work and we've been playing it a bit. 'Tis great, but I'm finding it a bit poppy and Shreyl Crow-ish, and from the lyrics you guys post I was expecting something a bit more edgy. ;)
Are their any other albums of hers that you'd recommend for someone starting out?
Lovin' the sound of her first three albums- will definitely have to check those out.
Yeah, I like Somebody's Miracle a lot, except there are some songs which fall flat in the lyrical department. Count On My Love is particularly bad. Absolutely adore the title track though- oh boy, can I ever relate!
Don't you just love it how so many amazing artists tend to lose their mojo as they get older, and their recent albums don't have half the spice and pezazz of their earlier music? They get complacent, alomst. Like U2, for instance, my all time favourite band. Their last two albums that have come out in the last 6 years have been terrible, at least by their standards...which sucks, considering their other 8 studio albums are pure bliss. Hmmm, except maybe Achtung Baby. *sigh* I don't know, it's a bit disheartening really.
And, oh gosh, speaking of singers going to the pack...how much do you want to murder Avril Lavigne's new song? Oh Lordy...it's like Mandy Moore gone grunge. Kill me now.
My favorite song on Somebody's Miracle is actually "The Wind And The Mountain." It's got a touch of spirituality in there, and it also really speaks to me at this point in my life -- about trying and trying to live life and getting so exhausted and not understanding why things aren't working out the way you had hoped and praying that things will improve and that all the challenges of life won't seem so insurmountable
( ... )
Ooh! I say this all the time! Hee hee.
*General self-esteem- Nyeh.
*Overall mental state, however- On the mend.
And these suit my mood today as well. We must be sharing a brain!
