Aw man, four more months! This is just so exciting...doesn't quite feel real yet that I am actually going to be in the same room (if you can call it that...:P) as the guys I've adored since I was 15! Ahhh...music will come and go out of my life, but U2 were my first love. And you never forget your first real love. :P
Aw, by the way, I finally checked out Pop. Me likey.

You know, it's funny, it doesn't feel four months away to me. It feels like a semester to me, and given how fast last semester shot by, I suspect that before I know it, I'll be on the plane to NZ. Why can't they build a bridge already - I hate flying!
Pop's an album that I really feel is hit-and-miss. Half of it is absolutely exceptional, especially Gone, the song that elevated me beyond casual fan status in the first place. I also very much like material such as Mofo, Last Night On Earth, and Wake Up Dead Man. But other parts of the album just contain total clunkers - Discotheque, Miami, Playboy Mansion. Thankfully Discotheque and Miami were excellent live, especially Discotheque.

We fully need our own "Chunnel" between Australia and NZ. Cos dude how much freaking cooler would that be? I'm not a great flyer either- I tend to have a bit of trouble with my ears on planes, even on really short flights.
Speaking of which, I fully have to post my dream about seeing U2 play on a plane. *shakes head* Yup, that's Erin's whack imagination for ya...:P
As for Pop...I'm with you, Gone is absolutely stunning. Please and Wake Up Dead Man...spine-tingling stuff. Those lyrics, I tell ya! Then you've got Do You Feel Loved which is all raw and raspy, and slightly sexy on the side. And If God Will Send His Angels, where the band proves once again they are the masters of the rock ballad. And If You Wear That Velvet Dress, which is...dark, and voyeuristic, and vulnerable, and really quite scrummy. And I do love me some Staring at the Sun...even though I know you don't like it. :P ( ... )

Heee, no. :P It did involve Bono reaching out and shaking my hand, in a formal, business-like, "oh-so-nice-to-meet-you-dahling" fashion. My dream self was all like, "Uh, Bono? Where's my hug, mate?!" *g* Will have to post the whole lot later, it's absolutely hilarious. Reckon I must've had the Beautiful Day video in my head or summat. :P
and then suddenly this wailing guitar just knocked me sideways. I thought I was in love.
Oh man, hell yes! I tell ya, Edge doesn't just play the guitar, he makes it speak. He truly makes it just...ring out, and soar and sparkle. It's amazing. But yeah, the guitar parts in Gone are magic. And ohmigosh, who can't listen to Bono's falsetto screams towards the end without getting some serious chills? And those lyrics are awesome ( ... )

I suppose, in contrast to you, U2 for me is essentially an essential part of music. They were one of those bands at the centre of music when I grew up, and I find it really hard to imagine life without songs such as New Year's Day or Sunday Bloody Sunday. It seems weird to me that for two months of my life, The Joshua Tree hadn't been released. A world without Red Hill Mining Town and the Suite Of Death? Say it never was so!
'When you say CCM, do you mean modern worship music? Like what gets played in Pentecostal churches? Like Hillsong and Planetshakers?'I'm thinking of shite such as Newsboys, DC Talk, Jars Of Clay, et al. I can't remember the names of the truly shitty bands, the ones that bear more of a resemblance to secular pop than anything. Seriously, if you don't capitalise the 'He' and change 'Lord' to 'baby', it could be some top 40 hit. And I don't like Pentecostalism in general. Give me ( ... )

Totally. *sigh* I guess I'm just being all sappy about them cos...well you tend to get thoughts like that when you've not been in a relationship since the age of 16. :P Ha, I always joke around that Bono and Jesus are the nearest thing I have to a man in my life. Guess I've just got a thing for blokes with long hair...*g*

*squirm* I have a Newboys album. You're going to go and remove me from your f-list, aren't you? :P
Hee, I bought the album cos it's got a version of one of my favourite worship songs In Christ Alone...which is actually an old Anglican hymn, with an Irish folk-ballad tune, and 'tis verra nice indeed. They also do a lovely version of You Are My King, another favourite. But yeah, definitely not an album I listen much to these days, as you can well imagine. :P ( ... )

Anyway, yeah, seriously don't worry about the spoilers, from reading other fan's posts, I'm not completely in the dark, and I kinda not what to expect. So, spoil me. :P
Me, I will absolutely cry with joy if they play All I Want Is You. Seriously, that song is love. Yes.
Hmmm, I have a few niggles about this show, which I'm keen to address with you. But, I might actually make a post about that later...

I have been thinking the same thing myself. I was even wondering if perhaps they'll chuck in any songs from their new album that they're in the process of recording. I wouldn't put it past them, just for the sake of re-jigging the standard set-list, especiually on the second night in Auckland. I'm thinking it'd be quite nice to get a live preview of their new material...but we'll have to see.
The big question is whether they'll open with Vertigo or COBL. They were using COBL in South America, but they'll only use it if it's dark in time, otherwise Vertigo will probably open and COBL won't be played until it's dark enough for the light show.
Oh please please PLEASE let it be COBL!! Gotta say it's my fave off HTDAAB as well, and I reckon it'd be the perfect opener, with it's long introduction, and the way in which it just explodes going into the chorus! It's the song I always listen ( ... )

Hmmm, tell me more about Slow Dancing...a lot of my fellow U2 ljers seem to dig it, but I've never heard it at all. Wasn't it a B-side to Stay?
We Love You In Antwerp! Now that is a cool song title...:P
My one prediction for something unexpected is A Man And A Woman.
Gosh, I hope not. Ok, yes, it's a lovely Bono/Ali song with some nice guitar work in there...but personally I think it's one of the big clunkers on HTAAB (along with One Step Closer)and I think we can do without it in the setlist. Oh man, if they're going to pull something unexpected, couldn't they do something truly rockin' from Zooropa or Pop? Or a B-side? Or crank out WGRYWH again? Or, as you said, Electrical Storm, which really would just rock to the core? Come on, fellas...:P ( ... )
