Have you met miss Kavanagh...??

Hmmm, must say Miss Jones rolls so much better off the tongue, but oh well. We were listening to "Swing When You're Winning" on our way to Akaroa yesterday morning (I hadn't heard it as a whole before), and oh my gosh, what an absolute work of brilliance! Must say it had me go rather fluttery on the inside! :P There is such...I dunno, an edge and a X-factor and a slick quality to swing music (especially the love songs) that's missing from a lot of today's hits, and it was such a joy to listen to. Now I've just gotta convince Adam to let me borrow it...

I'm currently cranking out The Corrs' Talk on Corners: Special Edition (DON'T MOCK!! They are a brilliant bad, ok?!), just for old time's sake. The song I'm really badly in need of right now is Hurt Before on their In Blue album (which is the song that probably defines me the most, as I mentioned on labellementeuse's journal just before), but I've not been able to find that CD for quite some time now, which is causing me some distress.

Here's a meme, in case you were interested:

Look at your LJ "interests" list. If you have fewer than 50 interests, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five interests, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five interests, pick every tenth one. If you have fewer than ten, pick all of 'em. List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly what it is about these things that interests you so much.

British Men: Oh, heck yeah! There is just something about a British accent, whether it be English, Scottish, Welsh, or Northern Irish (or Republican Irish, for that matter...but personally I reckon an Ulster accent is just that much hotter!), that makes me just go weak at the knees. Absolutely scrumptious. They have a certain type of charisma about them as well, in my opinion, which is really rather sexy...

Crying: As I said on my last post, I don't actually cry all that often, but sometimes it's just the most amazing feeling to have a really good howl every once in a while, of the tears-gushing-at-an-alarming-rate-face-all-scrunched-up-snot-flying-everywhere variety. No one emo tear for me!
I went to church for the first time in a while tonight, and I sat there weeping through most of the service. Felt so good...

Feminism: Yes, I'm a quasi-feminist, and proud of it! I see feminism as nothing more than an fight towards equality for men and women, in all areas of society, whether it be in the workforce, the church, the government, the home, no matter what. I'm actually quite keen to do some work towards helping women who are the victims of attempted honour killings in the Middle East, and also to do work with women with eating disorders. Although, that's more acting out of concern for my fellow humans than feminism, but oh well...

Irish culture: Well, duh. :P I've been having a wild and passionate love affair with all things Irish since I was about 12, when I first saw Lord of the Dance on TV (yes, with Michael Flatley...) one night, and I was completely and utterly smitten. Anything Irish, whether it be music, dance, poetry, or just listening to the sheer loveliness that is an Irish accent, gets be bouncing around the room like a chihuahua on herbal highs. No, seriously...I think there are very few kiwi 20-somethings that know the words to just about every Irish song in the book. :P
Basically, my identity for the last 8 or so years has been consumed with being Irish, and it's a huge source of mockery for my friends and family. And I swear that I will be marrying an Irishman one of these days...preferably a red-head, from the North, who can dance, and who plays the tin whistle.

Les Miserables: Quite possibly the most magical musical there is, I kid you not. Gotta say my fave songs would be One Day More, gets my heart pounding every time! And, of course, A Little Fall of Rain...*blub*

New Zealand Literature: Quite significant, with me being an aspiring New Zealand writer, and all! We have some true literary geniuses among us, and, in my opinion, kiwi books need to be pushed a lot more than what they are. People like James K. Baxter, Katherine Mansfield and Janet Frame (her autobiography is just one of the most stunning pieces of work I've ever read) are honestly amazing, and true examples of the quirkiness and individuality that goes with being kiwi. And you gotta read Emma Neale, as well, it was her books that got me wanting to seriously write. Ok, enough pimping...

Sylvia Plath: Definitely one of the goddesses of 20th Century poetry, and one of my many muses. This one here would have to be my favourite poem of hers. This one as well. Amazing...

Thinking waaaay too much: Yeah I'm pretty much always thinking, usually way too hard, and usually about things that are completely unnecessary, and particularly about things that I really should just let go. I'm prone to very long periods of soul-searching, and trying to figure out just exactly who the dickens I am, which leaves me feeling absolutely buggered most of the time. Another favourite is trying to figure out just why things (mainly people) are the way they are, and right now, I'm still pretty much clutching at straws.

Young Adult Novels: Yeah, I enjoy them, so what?! I'm actually planning on being a young adult novelist one of these days (as well as a womens' rights activist), and I want to write teenage fiction with a bite, if ya see what I'm sayin'. Two of my favourite teen novels are Looking for Alibrandi, by Melina Marchetta, and the Tiggy Thompson series, by our very own Tessa Duder. Both of these have rather feisty heroines, to whom I can relate almost exactly...apart from their rather steamy love-lives, but we won't go there...
I've actually an awesome idea for my next Young Adult novel, but that can wait 'til the next post, whenever that may be.

So yeah...I updated my interests page the other night if you wanna have a geez.

Was going to say more, but bed just right now mightn't be such a bad idea...

Catch youse fullas later, ao!
