Well, several things came out of my last post...one of them being that there doesn't seem to be any quick-fix solution to the problem of abortion. I've no idea why I'm making an entry out of this, but oh well.

*We decided that making it illegal isn't going to do it...as sixth_light pointed out, that will not stop abortion, but will only lead to a higher rate ( Read more... )

Hmmm, Abstinence. Yeah. I, of course, being Christian and all, have made the choice to wait til marriage, but I personally think there's gotta be more to sex ed than purely abstinence. Especially if you're trying to reach kids that aren't technically Christian, and therefore aren't gonna buy it. I think kids should be encouraged to take sex seriously, and not approach it with a devil may care attitude, and they need to be informed of all the risks, and what they can do to prevent the risks, as you said.
Contraception definitely needs to be pushed as a way of helping to prevents STDs- trust me, with AIDS and other crap floating around, pregnancy is actually the least of your worries...

Morning after pill - All for it. It's not really a mini-abortion. You take it within 72 hours of the 'incident' (broken condom, rape, drink spiking), and it prevents fertilisation 99% of the time.

Yeah, gotta say the thought of taking something to prevent fertilisation is actually a lot more appealing than the thought of having a fetus getting sucked out of me...but that's just me.

Jah bless (to use a phrase of yours!)

1) I got carried away with one point, and yeh. Condoms to prevent pregnancy, and STD's. Accountants and Lawyers can also use their personalities as contraceptives :P

2) Catholics are against all contraceptives. There's a Papal decree against them. Kinda stupid, when you think about how many people catch the Clap each year.

1) I'm guessing you got carried with the devil may care attitude bit? Not sure what you meant there.

2) There actually are some non-Catholic Christians that are against contraception, seeing as it's selfish, looking out for our own interests, and prevents God from being the Authour and Giver of Life. Bollocks, I say, for two reasons.
*God didn't just design sex for procreation, He designed it to be the ultimate expression of love for a married couple. There's a whole book in the Bible dedicated to it! So it's like what are married couples going to do if it's not God's plan for them to start a family just yet?
*So it's really God's plan for us to develop full-blown AIDS? So it's really His plan for us to contract some other infection, that will leave us infertile and unable to conceive? Nuh-uh. And don't you just love the argument used by some Christians that you won't catch an STD in having unprotected sex in a marriage, because you will both be virgins, and therefore there'll be no risk? Not always the case. Not all Christians are virgins when they get married, I know of plently had multiple sexual partners before becomming Christian.

1) I got a bit carried away in the use of condoms etc. just to prevent pregnancy, and didn't really say anything about STI's.

2) http://www.alysion.org/truelife/faq.html. I found that particularly amusing. I also found this here: http://www.victorious.org/sex.htm. Looks pretty good from what i've read so far.

I think the whole idea that the catholics are against it because it does not allow for the possibility of conception. If God wants you to have a child you will! I know a couple who got pregnant while she was on the pill and he was using a condom. Mary was a virgin for crying out loud. Silly reason there! But yeah youre right. It does have other purposes!

Yeah, that's true, but there's still the disease factor...
