I want to just lay still now. No movement. So tired that I don't think I have the energy to even close my eyes. *And yet, I can sit here and type, methinks because it's similar to the busy zombie-like-but-active state I achieved at work today*
Today was one of those days that I really REALLY wish I was still a stay-at-home mom. Not that I wasn't busy before, but it's a different kind of busy. A self-controlled kind of busy where I call all the shots as to what gets done and when. Today was NOT like that.
I had incoming calls all day. All freaking day while in the midst of trying to get payrolls for the week going. People calling with time data entry issues, people calling with policy questions on maternity leave, military leave, catastrophic leave, and oh, the seven or so other kinds of leave we have (when do these people work?) In the midst of all of this my voice mail decides to die and people start sending me pissed off emails that my phone is busy. (uh huh...right, that's cause I'm BUSY dammit!) So that involved a handy dandy tech ticket to the Dept. of Information Services. I get to take a number. Then later this conversation.
*names changed to protect the innocent*
Tech Person: Good afternoon, this is Jane from Windstream. DIS sent us your ticket. You have a phone problem?
Me: Yes my voice mail is no longer working.
Tech Person: You've tested it?
Me: Well, several employees have volunteered and left negative responses...so yeah, I'd say it's broken.
Tech Person: What is your gateway voice box number?
Me: The phone extension?
Tech Person: No, the gateway voice box number.
Me: A security code?
Tech Person: The voice box number. Is there anyone in your office who would have that information?
Me: I still have no idea what a gateway voice box number is.
*long pause*
Me: I do believe that's why we have to call DIS to begin with.
Tech Person: So I should just call them to get the information.
Me: Righto.
*sigh* I swear her voice was just like the teachers on Charlie Brown. "Wah wah WAH wah wah wah wah WAH."
Granted she did correct the problem and was kind enough to call back to be sure it was working. Of course that meant that many more irritated people could reach me so I still don't know if I'm pleased with her or not. :/
I'm excited about the upcoming Fall TV season. Don't know why as I've no clue about anything new but I really haven't watched ANY television this summer and now I kind of miss it.
I have read a TON of books. I can't even begin to name them all. I read the Stephenie Meyers trilogy. I read all of The Dresden Files. Some book titled The Doctor's Wife that was a rollercoaster of a read that dealt with how your passion and conviction to do what is right can destroy just as easily and permanently. OH! And I finally read Winkie, that book about the teddy bear that gets mixed up and confused as a terrorist. Very weird that was. Another book called Ghostwalk that was forgettable. I think I picked it up because it dealt with Newton and alchemy and at the time I was reading all the alchemy spoilers that the cover of DH had generated. *snorts* Yeah, disappointed with both books on that subject.
I've decided I really don't like Jodi Piccoult. I've tried reading Nineteen Minutes and I just can't get into it. It's not that the story lines aren't compelling because they should be, but *shrugs* I don't know if her writing style isn't strong or just that I don't like how the POV's are dealt with. Can't really put my finger on it, because the writing is solid, but I still haven't finished that book.
Meanwhile my family is on a karaoke kick. My brother and his singing career has gone from online to the moose lodge. o.O Even weider is that my mom is going too. My sister calls and asks if I want to hear mom sing. This strikes me as odd because we've heard her sing every Sunday in church for I don't know how many years. Still, she promises no Hallelujahs and Amens, and I'm curious as to how she'd handle Shania Twain. Heh. So long as no one tries to get on Idol and become the next Nikki McKibben I guess it's all good. ;)
What's up with you? *crickets*
Yeah, me too. ;) Hmmm, what to read next....
