This year, for my body, I'm thinking about joining Curves again. There is a location in downtown Oakland that is not too far from my house. I think this will be good for me. I want to feel more able-bodied.
I am also wanting to feel more able-minded this year. I am thinking of finding a list of the most frequently banned books in America (possibly
this one on wikipedia or
the American Library Association one) and reading all of the books on that list this year. They're not all classics, nor are they all high brow literature. But for the most part, books get banned because they might make people think, it might give them ideas. I already own a few of them, and I've read a decent number of them as well. But I'll be rereading those. Hopefully the local libraries will have the ones I don't own. Otherwise I may make pleas for loans here, or go buy them. But that's the plan.
I'll post the list I'm using here on my journal once I've decided. I'd love it if people wanted to join me, it would be great to have discussions about what I'm reading with other people.
Banned books always remind me of my Aunt Judy, a, now retired, teacher. One year she got me a t-shirt that listed the most banned books in the US and a stack of her favorite selections from that list. It was a mighty good gift. I may have to send her a note about this project and thank her.
