Spotlight on: Guest Editors
Hi everyone! I hope you like Part Two, which we posted yesterday evening. As I've said before, this project was a labor of love by a huge team. Over the next few weeks, I'll be posting about some of the less obvious heroes of the project. One largely unsung group are the guest editors.
When the project was stuck because I had very little time to edit, I asked three of my best online buds to do rough cuts of a scene. THEY DELIVERED! The resulting rough cuts a) made me realize that finishing the job was actually possible and b) that the end product might be watchable and c) that I have the best friends in the world. Literally the world. :D
Deirdre-c tackled the final scene in the episode, (what I call the "Hot Dog denouement") and she did it while training for a MARATHON and with a (sorry, Dei) totally rudimentary editing program. She made it look great, though! Thanks, Dei!!!!
Giandujakissedited the most talky (and one of the longest) scenes in the episode--the dreaded exposition scene. When I saw how lively she'd made one of the most static scenes seem, I felt like all the challenges we faced were possible. Thanks, giandujakiss!!!!
Ash48 DID HALF THE ROUGH CUTS FOR THE WHOLE FILM. It's possible that based on run-time, she actually rough-cut more than half. I asked her if she'd do one scene, and then she just totally blew me away by asking for more and more to do. The scenes she edited ranged from some of the most simple (Sam and Dean talking in the forest) to some of the very hardest (Sam and Dean finding the amulet and being chased by the dragon!), to some of the most logistically challenging (Dean and Cady hit it off in the bar) and some of the most over-shot (the museum scene).
Here is a list of her rough cuts:
Teaser: the businessman gets eaten)
Museum: the boys decide not to steal the gold the warlock wants
Bar scene: Dean hits on Cady the bar-owner, Sam cockblocks him (naturally)
Forest: Sam and Dean plot to get the dragon's stash, Cady joins the group and Sam uses puppy dog eyes, the boys rummage through the dragon's booty, the dragon chases Cady and the boys, Cady dumps Dean (LOL)
Hotel: Sam and Dean pull their guns!
Ash's support, talent, and love have truly transformed the project and made it so much better than it would have been without her. Thanks, Ash48!!!!
