Project J-fashion Daiso Edition!

I have been bedridden for the past week after having four wisdom teeth pulled and horrible pain meds that don't work sooo I have been really bored. I was catching up on the new season of Project runway, and I'm guessing like a lot of other people, I full full of ideas and jealousy for all the fun projects they get to do. I have always thought it would be fun to try one of the challenges with friends but it always seemed like way to pricey of an idea so I came up with Project J-fashion Daiso Edition!
All in all this is just for fun for everyone who watches Project Runway and is inspired by their unusual medium episodes like the candy shop and grocery store! Don’t be afraid to grab rice crackers or cat toys to make your high end gyaru inspired dress or some fake eye lashes to make a mori girl jacket!

**I'm still dopped up and dyslexic but I tried to clean up this post so sorry if its a little hard to read. All suggestions and ideas are welcome!!

**Note this is a bay area meet.

Theme:

We should pick a theme so no mater what j-fashion you pick to model your item after, it still has to look a certain way.

Examples: hime or  more traditional like red carpet look might be fun and challenging with Daiso products. So even if you are doing a mori girl jacket it still has to be princess like.

Materials:
Unlimited muslin + up to $30 of material from Daiso (you would need to bring with)
You also must BRING A SEWING MACHINE + hot glue gun or what every other "tools" you might need. If someone has extras bring them but its just way easier if everyone brings their own.

>>another thought is that everyone pps me $10 and I go buy a bunch of random crap at Daiso before hand. Then the morning of we have the judges dump it all out on the floor and we get five minutes to grab anything we can and then five minutes to barter with each other to get what we want. Side effects may include people getting really anoid with each other for hording to much :/ and someone ending up crying...

End product:
Item must count as a major wardrobe item so no hats etc. Must not look like a costume (as much as j-fashion can)! Can only be a major wardrobe piece like: Dress, Jacket, pants, full skirt. This is so it is doable in one day but not too easy.

No shorts, tank tops etc. (to easy!) Item can be sewn and glued. Dresses are encouraged since its more like Project Runway but if you want to do a nice long jacket or pants then more power to you!

Surprise mini game:
A mini game will be pulled out of hat with the options “matching ring”, “matching hair piece”, “matching necklace” etc and we will have 20 minutes to make it, half way through the day.

Their will be no prize for this but, the accessory finished/unfinished will be judged with your final look. So if you make something crapy because you run out of time it could hurt your final score even if you have an amazing dress.

>>would be fun to have a bonus for who ever makes the best item from the mini game but I couldn’t think of anything. Extra supplies??? Not sure since everyone will be doing something different… extra ten minutes to finish at the end??

Time: 10am-8pm total

Would love to have Daiso shopping be included in this time but being realistic it would be hard for everyone to get from Daiso to where ever this is happening.

>>Would be fun to see everyone scrabbling towards the same things though >_<

Think Project Runway with people fighting over sponges haha Maybe everyone could show up at the location then carpool to and from nearest Daiso?? We could also have a fifteen minute time limit or something so people can really panic.

Rough timeline of the day:

10am everyone show up and show judges your receipt and items from Diaso. All Diaso items must be on your receipt to prove you spend UNDER $30. $30 is just a good cap for us poor people but enough to actually make stuff. Trust me you can buy a LOT for $30! If you only spend $10 or $20 thats no problem at all :)

10:30-11-7 SEW/CRAFT your little heart out like your life depends on it!

2pm mini challenge 20 min

7-7:30 presentation! Show your item along with a very simple outfit. Outfit is not the focus since you wont be sure what you are making when you get their. Must be wearable. You can be glued in but from the outside it should look finished.
If would be cool if we could do outfits with our thing but that would be really hard since you wont know what you are making. Maybe if we know the theme is Ocean, for example, ahead of time then you could bring a blue blouse + long red wig just in case or something.

7:30-8 Judging and awards!

Prize: Grand trophy of awesome supplied by Sophie + bragging rights!

The trophy is just something silly Sophie with make for extra motivation. If anyone wants to donate a bigger prize that would be amazing but, since I want to compete myself I’m not going to supply it. I might make a few other silly badges to go towards “most creative”, "fastest sewer", etc to just make it a little more fun and so their isn’t just one winner. Maybe a baked good or gift certificate would be a good price since everyone can enjoy it.

Judges: Hopefully three but probably only 2!
>>So far Giovanna (jobiberry) has said she would like to be a judge since she isn't a seamstress but has mad fashion ;)

Judges can’t compete! Ideally at lest one judge would understand garment making. Maybe a seamstress that didn’t feel like competing this time so they can really judge the construction.

The other two judges only need to be full fledged fashonistas to judge ;). Really this is all for fun and not a serious competition at all so judges are really only required to want to do it. Judges will need to be their all day watching people do their thing and then give out the trophy at the end. For homework they should watch Projects Runway so they are prepared to make comments like “that looks cheep!”, “what were you thinking” and “that looks expensive” like the real judges do!

Alternatively Jeanine suggested boyfriends judge. This makes a bit more since seeing as a few of them will probably be dragged along anyway and will probably be more harsh judges! At least my bf would be a more harsh judge haha.

Other Thoughts

>>If anyone has an apartment big enough to host that would be great! I still am looking for where I will be living for school this month so I don’t know yet if I can host this. I’m just guessing but probably a lot of people will express interest and only about eight people will actually end up wanting to compete. Lolitas can be such flakes!

>>Dates! I’m thinking a holiday so more people will have time off school/work. There are a few holidays most people have off at the beginning of this semester. Or we could shoot for sooner but I know there are a few other Lolita events this month like AP mini party.

>>Finally, do you need to know how to sew?

Simple answer, no.

Complicated answer, you should understand construction. These items can be glued, taped or what ever you want, unlike in Project Runway, and wont be examined on the inside but you need to understand enough about clothing to make it look nice on the outside. Also others will be competeing and they might be willing to help if you get confussed or they might sabotage you muhahaha! But really don't expect to depend on others.
Really everyone should feel open to participating and if you don’t end up wanting to “compete” then no pressure to do so. Hang out and do your own thing.
