to death. Filmmaker Carl Bessai’s films are possessed of a strong mystical dimension, and
there’s a shimmering, otherworldly weariness to this new work that succeeds in dignifying a very
real social concern, while still honoring genre conventions. Led by respected Cree actress
Cardinal (DANCES WITH WOLVES, LEGENDS OF THE FALL, Snow Bird on “Dr. Quinn,
MedicineWoman”), the cast features a noteworthy line-up of regionalAboriginal actresses giving
voice to a community ruptured by unnatural tragedies that are far from accidental.
