Back again! \c/\c/\c/ I missed you all so much! But I am back now. \c/

Anonymous sent me an email yesterday. I don't know if you heard it already, William Hutt (Charles/Lear from Slings & Arrows) died yesterday. PGs The Trojan Horse was his last project. There are write ups here and here. :(

She also found an article about Passchendaele that was posted in two major Alberta papers:

Paul Gross’s delayed battle epic begins filming

A battle has been won on the Alberta film front and a war epic is set to unfold.

It’s been confirmed that filming for the long proposed Passchendaele - a movie about a struggle during the First World War, fought by 50,000 Canadians in the muddy fields of Ypres, Belgium - is set to begin next month.

“Yes, we’re in pre-production,” said Penny McDonald, the film’s associate producer, on Wednesday. “We’re shooting in August in and around Calgary. We don’t have any cast yet to tell you about, but the message is we’re up and running.”

This news comes after more than two years of boardroom lobbying on the part of Calgary actorturned-movie director Paul Gross, former star of the CBS series Due South, who pitched the project to former premier Ralph Klein during the province’s centennial celebrations in 2005. Klein shocked the Alberta film community by pledging $5.5 million of the film’s total budget, which is about $20 million, on the provision that Gross would get the money once he raised the remaining funds.

Gross managed to secure an additional $3.5 million from the federal government and then embarked on a mission to raise the rest of the money by attracting private investors.

An open casting call for Passchendaele has been set for today at the Days Inn Calgary South on Macleod Trail from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Casting directors are looking for hundreds of extras to play the part of soldiers in the movie. “Ideally we are looking for soldiers between the ages of 16 and 26,” said extras casting director Marcy Hershon in a press release. “The bulk of the battle scenes will be shot midSeptember to the middle of October.”

Those participating in the casting call are encouraged to bring a snap shot of themselves.

Hershon adds: “This is a great opportunity to be part of what will be the premier movie shot in Calgary this year.”

And also, filming on Normal finished at the end of April and there is already a first cut of the film since Carl Bessai is looking to release it in the Fall. Someone who was able to see it said it was "very powerful, very well done". And since it's only a first cut, there's hope it will get even better, right? Right. \c/

I haven't been able to keep up with my flist while I was away, but I did see that scriggle posted some CKR pics.
