Gay Rights

You know, perhaps I'm just being a little shithead/disturber but I've seen this generic post regarding gay rights on several of my friends pages. Now, I have no problem with the message itself. Nor do I have any issue with someone relaying said message. The problem I have is that this is, once again, being made into an issue.

I know what may are thinking, that this is an/(a) (major) issue. And yes, people are poorly treated. We as humans, regardless of our race, sex, gender, age, economic status, geographic location, religion, beliefs, education level, sexual preference, level of intelligence, addictions, health, height, weight ect... treat each other like shit. My argument is not that one "group" (for lack of a better word) isn't worse off than any other, nor the opposite.

My issue is simply this:

We're looking out for ourselves and our own personal interests (or those of a "group" to which we have been assigned or arrived upon by chance, nature, third-party label, un/conscious decision or otherwise) rather than seeing the larger problem facing us all.

There are no gay rights. There are no rights for the rich (or the poor). There are no rights based upon religion, political affiliation, race, language, age, gender, education level, job, intelligence, health ect...

THERE ARE HUMAN RIGHTS.

It's all been covered time and time again. There's little need to fight for new rights, most are already in place.

No one is greater than or less than anyone else. And, in my opinion (we are all entitled to our own opinions and the expression thereof) those who wish to intervene in this basic premise should have their lives terminated in a timely and painless manner.

[Note: For those who don't know me properly, I do favor equality for all, including such things as the (in)famous same-sex marriage principle. Injustice is injustice, there is no excuse for mistreating anyone else.]
