Springboard 21: How did I get here?

What inspired you to become a cop lawyer?
When I was eight years old, my mother worked for a very rich family.

They were the Waynes. Martha and Thomas Wayne were a symbol of hope in Gotham. They were the people that inspired change throughout the city, and reached out to those less fortunate, treating the pauper with the exact same courtesy they would treat the prince. They were kind, and gentle, and fair.

When their son was ten, they were murdered at gunpoint in front of him in the back of an alleyway.

It didn't hit me then, precisely: I want to be a lawyer.

It was more of feeling of rage. Being rendered useless: I wanted justice.

Joe Chill was convicted for their murder. He was brought to court and found wanting in the eyes of the law. Years later I would think back to this moment, knowing that this should never happen again. And if it did, I wanted to be the one to see through it, to ensure that there would be consequences to such a senseless crime.

I wanted to serve the lady with the blindfold, demand better of the process, and better of ourselves.
