Springboard #14 - abuse of power

Jun 28, 2008 12:40

I understand that the police walk a fine line. I understand the terrible toll it takes on them. I understand the temptations, the desire for money, for power, even for justice, that make them want to cross that line. Police officers are, after all, only human, and their official capacity aside, it's a tragedy when any of us succumb to our darker instinct. Beyond the badge, they're like any of us, and we all have our weaknesses. Pray you never come face-to-face with yours when you need what you want the most.

And when one does fall, one with a conscience, one who only wanted to make things right - can he or she ever really walk away from that? No, oh, no. It's not so one-sided - not for the truly good, the ones with no sense of self-righteousness, the ones who know the taste of pain, of victimhood. Nobody truly dies in a vacuum, not for these fragile souls. If they take the step, if they commit the crime, despite all their reasons, it eats them away, slowly, gradually, a cancer of the soul.

All they need then is one small push. I love my life.
