Springboard #13: Masks and Personas: Does your persona change from work to your personal life? If so, how? Are you perceived the same way everywhere at any time? Talk about it!
I am a federal law enforcement official, but I no longer work in the firing line, so to speak. My job is solely in the “dungeons” hunched over piles of forensic evidence to help my buddies in the firing line solve the cases. I don’t need to handle guns, even if I am required to carry one if I’m ever out in an official capacity. I only really deal with my colleagues on a daily basis. I can easily say that no, I don’t really change my persona from work to the job. I am who I am and I come as I come and if you don’t like it, you can bite my arse.
I’m a straightshooter. I’ll tell it like it is and I’ll do anything it takes to get my job done in the best way it possibly can. I’m one of the fortunate ones who don’t need to work behind a mask. I’m me. Special Agent Ali Sullivan, Forensic Analyst. I don’t even get a double-oh whatever, bugger it. I tried the field work and I tried the mask thing… it made me miserable. I like what I do now and I’m good at what I do - and I’m fortunate I don’t need to be two different people to pull that off.
