Springboard: Masks and personas

Jun 09, 2008 00:48

Does your persona change from work to your personal life? If so, how? Are you perceived the same way everywhere at any time? Talk about it!

I'm not irritated at humanity when I'm sitting at home with my wife, that's for sure. But there's only one person that I deal in.

There's a reputation that I'm crazy. Yet if anyone actually paid attention, they would realize that doesn't make sense. If I were actually mentally ill, I wouldn't be on active duty with the FBI; I wouldn't be allowed to hold my job. But people don't figure that out. They think I'm two seconds from snapping and burning the whole building down.

I let them keep thinking that.

Some people don't understand why I take such glee in having such a bad reputation. But I can use it to my advantage. If people really think I'm crazy, they're going to give me a pretty wide berth. They're going to be on edge because they don't know what I'm capable of. They're going to be asking themselves what is wrong with me. And I can use that to mess with their heads and make them crazy.

It all works out in the end.
