I’m very different off the clock than when I’m on the clock. There are some things that are harder to turn off than others, of course. Like noticing little details about everyone and everything around you.
On the clock I joke around a little. But normally it’s all work. The cases we handle are heinous and the criminals elusive. Profiling requires us to get inside the heads of the crazies, you know? So when I step away… I really try to step away. Sometimes it’s necessary to keep my headspace the way I like it to be… sane.
I don’t like it when I catch myself profiling off the clock. And at this point it takes a conscious effort to stop because it’s just a natural thing to do. I hate when people try to profile me. Sometimes you just want to try to let the normal everyday people be exactly what they are without trying figure them out. I want to ask people questions and learn about them that way rather than knowing everything through figuring it all out on my own.
Off the clock I’m a pretty fun guy. I like to go have a few drinks and shoot some pool. I like to try to think like an average joe instead of a profiler. And that’s sometimes hard to do. I like music. I like to go dancing. I like riding my motorcycle off road just for the fun of it. Hang out with Clooney. It’s a good time.
So the answer to the question. Yeah, I have a different face for on and off the clock.
