By the book?
Anyone who asks me this question doesn't really know me.
Here's the sticking point: a 'book,' as we call it, or set of guidelines, or whatever you'd like to describe it as, is a static text. Crime and criminal actors are organic events and individuals. You can't operate solely off a static text when the situations it's to be applied to are always different and changing.
I've heard the watercooler talk degrading my abilities and judgment because I would rather use an unconventional method to deal with suspects than shoot them or shove them into a car. I would rather hit them with a stuffed whale. The whale is less violent and more fun. And if it really were an emergency, then I would consider other options, but just because I don't go for the quick and messy solution doesn't make me an idiot.
If using the book means that I have to shoot a suspect who runs away from me, or file my paperwork in a certain order, then I'd much rather light it on fire.
Sorry, Brady. I know you're so disappointed.
