Local Authorities versus Federal Authorities?

Mar 26, 2008 14:35

I've been in the Secret Service for at least a decade now, seen two presidents including our current leader and I still don't understand this:

What the hell is it that keeps Federal and Local authorities from working together cohesively? There's alot of jargon about pissing contests and such, but all I want to do is make sure that things go ( Read more... )

They walk in and expect it to be their game and their show without consideration for the work already done. I have never seen one agency walk into another and NOT expect to take control, take command and have everyone there before bow down and kiss behind to You may wish this, all you may want is for it to go smoothly but every agency wants their own glory, their own name on the kill.

So no, we are not all on the same team. We are each on our own team. It is nice to say that we are all one team, looking to catch the bad guys but it is rarely like that when you get above the most base level.

Agents, detectives, they wish to catch the bad guys, to protect those that are not perps - I do not believe in the phrase innocents. Higher ups often wish to get promotions and be noted for doing a better job than others.

That's the most complete answer.

Doesn't mean I want to acknowledge it You don't believe we're all working for the greater good Ms. David?

No, I believe we are working to the greater good... as defined by each department and their supervisors. No matter how civlians want to see officers and agents, we are all still humans. Human desires and needs motivate each one of us. I believe as you raise in rank, those desires and needs change. Nor do I think this is all agents and officers.

We all want a greater good, we are not all on the same team. I am not sure I am making this clear. I do not mean any department or agency is bad, merely that they all have their own agendas.

No, you cleared it up. Everybody wants to do it their own way. Every team wants to win the world series but everybody wants to play the game. I do understand.

It just sucks sometimes.

There's nothing that can't be solved with Sports. Girl I used to work with once proposed that rather then fight a war we just have people play on sports teams. We could solve Iraq in Four Quarters with their football guys versus ours.

I do hope by football you mean soccer. It is the international game.

I can't choose between the two. American football's different then soccer-I played soccer-football is an abbaration to...I'd say about eighty to seventy percent of most Americans.

If I wanted to watch American football, I would remove the pads and watch rugby.
